@TPG,

Getting off topic...

Is that Dale, then?

@BoingBoss - that your puppy? Reminds me of my brothers (long since sadly departed) dog when he first got him. Grew into one humungous, massive (and extremely strong) beast! Due to the whole "all big dogs are all nasty an evil" thing that occured here (following some cases seriously nasty attacks on people) people assumed he was straight from the Omen or something. But he never really grew much out of being a puppy ;-)

Taking some 12 stone (I kid you not) of playful muscle for a walk to the beach was quite a tiring experience :lol:

That's cool, it keeps the thread bumped. Although apparently no-ones interested. :-?

But yep, that's Dale. He has an online journal, by the way:

http://www.livejournal.com/users/daledawg/ :-D

(Oh, it seems livejournal is down for some reason, but anyway.) :-)

So I see :-D

Satisfying break from work ;-) Jeez, I once made a promise to myself that I'd never work Saturdays and yet here I am, sitting infront of a sodding iMac, using BBEdit to fix, update and generally replace a bunch of totally *awful* (as in the least optimal, biggest abuser of deprecated features, most pathetically 'no knowledge of programming paragdims beyond the function') implemented) l DreamWreckerMX generated php code.

And that's just the application back end :lol:

Er....:lol:

I'm more your traditional C/C++ kinda feller so web stuff isn't really my dream position ;-). I had to learn php, javascript etc. pretty damn quickly for this job.

Annoyingly it pays a total pittance, but ...

extern Beggar* oldMe;

try {
Chooser* newMe = dynamic_castoldMe;
} catch (...) {
std::cerr << "Beggars can't be choosers!\n";
}

has a tendency to throw every time ;-)

By way of explanation, one of the things I *hate* about Xoops 2 is the fact that everything is written in a manner that is so overly complicated and obfuscated that it's very difficult to make even simple code changes.  It is for this exact reason that I have considered moving to another system for quite a while.

The problem now is that, having gone to Xoops 2 based on it's other merits (the features some of you love), all this data is pretty much pigeon-holed, meaning it would be almost impossible to move 200,000+ forum posts and countless stories, articles, FAQ entries, not to mention nearly 3,000 users etcetera to a new Web software package.

not true, i  noticed immediately that my sig had been suddenly cut!
i decided to keep the import part for the moment because until nov, i want to remind people that bush is dangerous.

i figured there wasn't anything i could do about the sig length. so i didn't mention it.
