Compiling Mozilla on Amiga
« on: July 15, 2004, 05:19:32 AM »
Anybody ever attempted to port Mozilla or FireFox code to AmigaOS?  Specifically I am thinking about it for OS 3.9 on a 2500 I am buying.

Tips and suggestions are welcome... also what compiler to use and will I have to modify the code for the graphics handlers or will the libraries for C++ be there?

Thanks,

If you complete this, you know you're entitled to about $10,000.00?

Maybe someone will give me a job programming then :-)  The only problem is that I would never code for Windows.. ;-)

Any support for this will be welcome, I want to have a good browser on the Amiga and IMHO Firefox is the bomb :-)

I chose it because it is fast (on other platforms) and standard too makes it a good choice.

Downloading the 0.9.2 code as we speak :-)

Thanks for help in advance!

Almost forgot, why $10,000?  I would do it for simply giving something to the community and having one of my own needs met in the process !  :-D

I dont want to sound negative, but what programming experience do you have? Because it sounds like quite a hard task to accomplish from what people have been saying. Talk to [RobinC] on the amizilla mailing list, because they're working on a port as well. Maybe you could help them.

Good luck. :)

Why almost $10,000?

I take it you've not heard of the Amizilla Bounty Project
 (http://www.discreetfx.com/AmiZilla.html).

On the negative comments side of things I have to add another - Mozilla and derivatives absolutely crawl on every CPU I've seen under approximately 300MHz.

Also, as just a 'by the way' - on FreeBSD on my PC, the last time I compiled Mozilla on it, it took between 1 and 3 hours to compile.
