Amiga games on cd, can this be done?

Is there a way to put a multi disk game on cd and play from that, or put a few games on a cd and play them from the cd?

The reason i want to do this is because i have games like indian jones and star trek, which I know i can install the the hard disk but is there a way to play them from a bootable cd, same goes of other games can i play them from a bootable cd?

You may be able to install them to a CD but to boot from the CD would require you be running on a CDTV or CD32 or A500w/A570 CD-ROM expander.  Most other Amigas boot the CD-ROM filesystem from the hard-drive so you can't boot from the CD-ROM.   :-(

What if I setup a filesystem on the cd, is there a way to get the cd to boot that filesystem then run the game though startup or something?

Or is there a way to mount adf images as a virtual drive, maybe i can boot from there?

Search on E-Mule for the 200 Amiga Games CD32 cd.. A CD stuffed with 200 games, all playable from your CD32!!!

You need an OS to run UAE and Knoppix (KX Light) on Amiga Forever CD 6 can do this!

I think we have go down the wrong path here. Im not looking for illigal software, etc.

I have an a1200, with cd rom drive and os 3.9 installed on hdd.
I wanted to know if i could put adf file on a cd and play them on my amiga, or copy the files from disk to a cd and boot the cd, also on my real amiga.

There's a program that let's you mount ADF's on the Amiga, so in theorie this could work for games that don't kick the OS out the window. And offcourse if the game doesn't need to write to disk..

Another way would be to use WHDload or similar, install the games to HD, copy the diretory to CD and make a script that makes the needed assigns (if any) point to the location on the CD..

The Amiga Kickstart ROM only supports booting from floppy, PCMCIA card device, hard drive and RAD device.  I think RAD is the one you are looking for.  It is a ram disk that becomes the default boot device on warm reset (control-amiga-amiga keys) You can set up a script to mount RAD: and install the necessary CD-ROM filesystem and execute the file on the CD-ROM.  You may need WHD-Load to install your programs, however.

Yes it can be done.  In most cases if an Amiga game can be installed to a hard drive then that game can also be played from a cd.  The trick is to first install the game to the hard drive, then burn the "hard drive version" of the game to a CD.  This method works really well on games like Kings Quest VI, Wings, etc.  For games that insist on loading from DF0 use a hex editor and do a search for "DF0".  Change to "CD0" and save.  Now the game should work from a CD.  This will only work for games that are not copy-protected.  I use the Mini CD-R discs to create my Amiga CDs.  A Mini CD-R is the same size as a 3.5" disk, so they fit real nicely into a 3.5" disk bank.   :-)

The best way to do this is to first convert the ADF files back to real Amiga disks.  You will need the program ADF2DISK.  Place this file in your hard drives c directory.  Then open up a CLI and type the following:

ADF2DISK filename.adf  [Return]

Make sure that you have a blank disk in DF0.  Repeat this process for the rest of the ADF files.  Next, install the game to your hard drive.  Now you can burn the "hard disk version" of the game to a CD-R.  If the game insists on loading from DF0, then use a hex editor to change "DF0" to "CD0" in the boot files code.  Now the game should work from CD.  I have created many game CDs, so I know from personal experience that this works and it works really well.  For instance: Kings Quest VI is 10 ADF files.  I first converted the 10 ADF files to real Amiga disks.  Next, I installed the game to my Amiga 2500s hard drive.  Then I burned the "hard drive version" of the game to a Mini CD-R disc and WHALLA !!! a Kings Quest VI Mini CD for all Amiga computers.  You can do the same thing for lots of other games too and have more then one game on each CD.   :-D

That sound like it might do it actually but i cant try it without the uae-app_015_fat.lha part of it.

What BoingBoss has suggested is fascinating.

I've never seen a Mini-CDR but I have seen the recordable flipcards
(which are basically a credit card that spins around in your CD
drive).

I don't get why you don't want to put them onto hard disk instead of
on seperate CDs, but I can see the advantage of being able to take a
disc around to a friend's house (like you'd do with a console disc).

Another thing you might find interesting - MakeCD has an option menu
solely regarding CD32 & CDTV auto-booting. It allows you to make the
CDs bootable and add copyright notices etc. You might want to try this
if your disc is to be compatible with a CD32/CDTV.

For the Amiga 1200 bare in mind that a lot of CD-ROM adaptors won't
autoboot a disc because the drivers are loaded from the hard disk. I
think Squirrel allowed autobooting but I can't seem to do it on my
SCSI-IV kit.

Maybe an IDE/ATAPI CD-ROM drive would work best? Not sure...

Another thing you might consider is putting your games onto a Compact
Flash card or two, and having a portable PCMCIA card reader. this way
you can take the reader to a friend's house and a collection of
postage stamp sized disks (2mb up to 512mb!) and they can not only be
re-written to but are 10's of times faster.
