Looking for an Amiga...
« on: July 13, 2004, 01:51:47 AM »
I'm a newbie to the whole amiga thing, but ever since I've heard of them, I've been very intriged into getting one!  I'm a major video editor, and also do much imaging, and thought it would be so cool to have an older system that could actually do some of the stuff my newer ones do(say I can actually find a video toaster unit :P)

I have the money to afford the ones on E-Bay, but I'm afraid to buy many of them.  Either they are $200+, or people have it set to automatically outbid me.  I would be willing to spend more than $100 or so if I knew more what I was getting.  However, emus and pictures just done work as actually playing on one of these wonderful systems.

Anyway, I'm sure you've read enough!  Bascially, does anyone here have one for sale, or know where I can find one?  I'd even give up some computers(say my PIII 733) for a decent amiga(as in a 3000 or 4000)

BTW, sorry if htis is the wrong place to post such a message....

Ummm... I don't want to offend you, but you will have
spend alittle more than $100.00.
As a guess (since I'm not into the video thing) I would
think if you picked up an A4000 Toaster system for around
$500.00 you will have nade a good deal.
Actually, I would think a complete system would be closer
to $1000.00. (but don't quote me since I really don't know
what I'm talking about, I'm just guessing)

Stealth ONE  8-)

If you want to get into video and the amiga a 2000, 3000 or 4000 would be ideal.  Ok here is what you can expect on eBay:  With $100 in mind you are best off with a 2000 setup (a little more with a Video Toaster 2000 card).  But with Amiga monitor, 2000 system and VT card you are looking at around $200-$400.  For a nice 4000 Setup around $500-$800.  I myself got a killer deal on eBay recently with a Buy it now auction!  Two 4000s systems with VT4000s and one 2000 system loaded with VT2000 and two Amiga monitors!  For $300!  So you can find deals.  Keep checking and good luck...

@TjLaZer

You are one seriously lucky dude.

But I would recommend the A4000 more than any other machine......the VideoToaster is simply better on the A4000. More colors. And even if not using anyGfx cards, AGA looks great for Video..Get SCALA MM300 or 400................its a Must!!! if you want to do Video. Also Get Broadcast Titler 2, Brilliance 2.0, ADORAGE, Image Studio 2.3,.............But if you can only get one.then Get SCALA MM400...............it puts your entire Production together like a breeze.

SCALA is More to the Amiga, than what PowerPoint is to the PC.

SCALA was made for the Amiga, and Employees at SCALA even created part of the Amiga OS. SCALA is AMIGA!
CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

I got an Amga 3000 about 2 months ago or so and Im very happy with it. I have recently put a cybervision 64 3d in it and love the look. I got an IBM 4.5 gig ultrastar 2 scsi drive for it and that is plenty fast for the old girl. I got the MIggy off Ebay for about 200 bucks in good shape. If I had it to do all over again Id get a 4000 or a 3000 tower. Go right for 3.9 OS dont mess with 3.1 as its just to old and doesnt support alot of nice things unless ya mess with it like no native cd support until ya jam a cd0 file in it. The 4000 has the 040 cpu in it and has more room for upgrades, it comes with ide drive support and high density disk drive. Some people like the 3000 and think its the ultimate amiga I would trade my 3000 for a 4000 any day. Id say just get it off ebay unless ya know someone here who can get ya one, just be carefull who ya buy it from and look at there feedback first less than 98% positive can be a warning just be carefull.
