Just as clarification, it IS an optical mouse, but contrary to your description, it is not like one of the modern optical mice, produced by Logitech, MS, or found on the iMac...
The old "Dale Luck" mouse is more similar to an old SUN-style optical mouse. (In fact, I tend to think it IS an old SUN mouse that Dale re-wired and repackaged, but that's just a guess on my part...) Anyhow, this mouse can only be used in perfect vertical alignment on the metallic gridded mousemat, which is hopefully included in the box. Still, it beats the heck out of roller-balls! :-)
