What switch to use for gfx-card and scandoubler?
« on: July 07, 2004, 06:46:41 PM »
Hi,

My son came asross a boxfull of old games on floppies.

They can only be played through the old, scandoubled, video system.
All right the scandoubler is there and functioning and I use a CV64/3d card. But a mechanical switchbox, which houses a birdsnest of wires, and two extra video cables deteriorate the video signal quality quite severely.

What switch can you recommend that has no visible impact on the quality of the video signal?

(Current system: A1200 in ElBox tower, Blizzard 040 + SCSI, Apollo ZIV-board + CV64/3d (+ however irrelevant: X-Surf, ISDN & HyperCom Z4))

Thanks,

Tjitte

I'd try your garden variety Belkin switch.  I've used them with great success on Amiga/Mac/PC combinations that use the same monitor.

www.belkin.com (or check eBay).

One caveat - My friend has gone through a couple of them, but in his case he also uses the keyboard/mouse feature (lets you use one keyboard/mouse with all the computers).  I usually don't use that feature because Amiga keyboards (with one exception, the A4000 I think) don't use PS/2 connectors nor are their mice connected that way in >90% of cases either.

So he's gone through two Belkin switches whereas I have two being used for several years with no problems, but I don't use that feature.  Just an FYI.

You can sometimes get good closeout deals on them at the Belkin site, otherwise there should be many on eBay or similar sites.....
