A600 software problem
« on: July 07, 2004, 08:49:11 AM »
Hi,
I've just purchased an A600 from ebay, the main reason i bought it was to play Kick off 2. I used to have an A500 back in the day and it worked fine but I can't get in running on the A600 for some reason. I'll either get a software error or a blue flashing background halfway through loading the game, behind the title screen.

Am i doing something wrong? do i need some kinda boot disk liked i used to have with my 1200? its was a while ago and I can't remember or have I been sold a dud from ebay?

Thank for reading and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ross  :-)

It is likely that the game requier ROM1.3 , the A600 comes with ROM2.0 and so it could need a degrader software like the A1200 had (ROM3.0). The good thing about the A600 is that you can use a kickstart switch with it so you could actually have both ROM's in the machine... 2.0 for workbench and games and 1.3 for those games that refuce to work on 2.0.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. Any idea where i would get this software from?

I've just been trying a few more games that came with it.

Zool 2, screen stars flashing software failure and asking me to click left mouse button half way through loading.

Sensible soccer v1.1 loads the title screen then after i click the joystick button i get a black screen and the floppy light stays on

Pacmania and jimmy whites snooker seem to work without any problems.

Thanks again....
Ross

It's also possible that the disk you have are corrupted. Disks are not ment to last for ever you know... that's why one make backups of disks onto harddrives these days instead of the other way around like in ones early Amiga years. :-D

/Quote where is the best place to get kickstart disks? /quote

You can only get Kickstart Disks for the A1000 and only Kickstart Versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 are available.

For the A600 you will need to get a new Kickstart ROM Chip.
The A600 will use A500 ROMs but then the Special Onboard IDE devices will not be configured.

Sorry never had, used or repaired an A600.
It think it's the only CBM produced Amiga Mode I never worked with.

Cheers

Shaf

Get ReloKick and TurboPAL

its the best option or get a ROM switcher and put the 1.3 ROM and the 3.1 rom...most people would tell you you dont need the rom switcher if you have 3.1 because 1.3 is built in. But I believe it will work better.

But get Relokick.it turns your A600 into a 1.3 machine...........you even see the hand with the disk like on an A1000 or A500.

But the MEGA most BEST way...........is to get WHDLoad.it lets you install the games onto Harddrive and even makes it work even if you dont have ROM 1.3
CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

Cool, thanks for the reply. I think that is what i used to have for my 1200, its gave me the good old hand with the disk. Will this work on the 600 and where would I go about getting hold of it?
I'm so out of touch with Amiga stuff but I'm sure it'll all come flooding back soon!

Cheers
