How do I uncompress ADF on PC?
« on: July 07, 2004, 07:18:14 AM »
G'day mates! I'm new on this board, and an old fallen amigafreak. Has ben working with the amiga for graphic animation many years ago, but lost the job and didn't have an amiga myself.
I'm trying to get an amiga emulator to work on my pc but has ben blocked on my way by not beeing able to unpack ADF files on my pc. I've found workbench 3,9 and downloaded it but cannot get any further and the winUAE dosn't look very exciting telling me that the kickstart wants a bootdisk.

I hope you can help me.

The reason I want to use the emulator is that I still miss my deluxepaint animation program. Found it on the net and got it down waiting for me in the emulator directory.

First off all... welcome

Second ADF files are not packed.. they are diskimmages and WinUAE take them as they are (if you where to use them with an Amiga you would need a tool to write them back onto a disk ofcause).

Workbench 3.9 is the latest version and is sold on a CD in every Amiga store on the planet I would think... almost anyway. I think you should try to collect the small amount of money this software cost and buy it. Anyway.. to be able to use this CD you will have to either install 3.x with CD support or have a bootdisk with CD support on it to boot the CDrom.

But if you miss the old thing then why not run it on a real Amiga instead of emulation? An A1200 can now and then be found for as little as 40$. :)

What you need a the kickstart ROM. The only legal way I know of obtaining one without actually owning a real Amiga, is by purchasing Amiga Forever from Cloanto.

I have it and it works great, emulating a good percentage of Amiga apps & games.

Hejsan Brian and thanks for your fast reply.

I know there is a CD-ROM I can buy, or that I could buy an old amiga instead of emulating.
The reason for not doing it is that I'm that kind of guy that wont pay for anything that can be found free on the net and also my pc is made of spareparts i've got for free.

You say winUAE takes the adf files as they are. Well I've got a bunch of adf files representing wb3,1 but I cant imagine that a file called workbench31.adf can be used to startup winUAE.

Any suggestions?

Hello Cloanto

I have a kickstart. The next problem after installing the kickstart is to get a workbench. Can't imagine any other way to get winUAE running as an amiga

You told in your earlier posts that you've got serveral ADFs representing Workbench 3.1 and that you have a kickstart file. That is all you need.

You should not ask for any further support if you use stolen copies. Software pirates are not accepted here.

Either buy the Amiga Forever CD or buy a real Amiga, there is no other way to use an emulator legally.

Bye,
Thomas
