Why is my power light dimming!?

I just noticed my A1200's power LED dimming, then a few seconds later
coming back to original brightness.

It does this a lot and I keep thinking it's crashed or the
sound-filter is switching on (even though no sound related programs
are loaded).

This gives me the creeps, surely my modified ATX power supply is
giving me enough juice and regulating the power sufficiently!?

Wouldn't I crash well before seeing the power LED dim like this!?

Can someone suggest what this could be?

You've installed some kind of CPU monitor that uses the LED to show CPU use or are using Executive with the flash LED option on?

No, no CPU monitors!

I double checked to see if that option had re-enabled itself with
Executive but no, I thought it was annoying so disabled and saved it
long ago.

What I'm noticing is not in relation to CPU usage or any sort of
system activity.

It just dims for maybe 10 seconds, then comes back on!

Totally freaky and I hope it's not something to do with power
fluctuations because I have been getting a lot of SCSI trouble over
the last few years.

Hmm, as I recall the LEDs are actually two LEDs in one, is it possible one of them is going out intermittently (and only half of the light is actually lit?)

If that's not it, have you tried playing some music and listening while the light dims to see if the audio filter is actually switching on and off?

I hadn't thought that one of the 2x LEDs might have a poor connection,
I'll have to investigate.

It doesn't look that way though, I'm sure I'd notice if one was dimmer
than the other as the plastic on them is fairly translucent.

The dimming happens occasionaly when playing MP3 but no audio filter
comes on, and it doesn't appear to be related to AHI either!

One thing that raises an eyebrow is that when I load Executive's
Commander tool, I see a task at the very top of the list entitled - .

Just a hyphen, no name like [Workbench] or card.resource, although I
do have a task named "AUDIO".
