A1200 hard disk cable
« on: July 06, 2004, 10:31:12 AM »
I've just taken out a 2.5" Seagate ST9100A hard disk out of an old small 486 box. It comes with a ribbon cable 5cm long with exactly the same number of pins as the back of the hard disk itself.

Could this cable be used to connect it to an A1200 internal IDE interface, as a friend of mine said he can vaguely remember having to snip one of the wires.

I can't see why you would have to snip a pin off the cable in order for it to work.

At the same time I don't want to blow it up.

Will I need to purchase a special Amiga ribbon cable or are they the same as their PC counterparts?

It should work straight off, just stick it in and give it a go.

Snipping one of the lines was a fix used by some people to solve problems with slow hard disks not being detected on a cold boot. Pin 1 or 2 as I rememmber.
Restraining orders are just another way of saying I love you!

The 2.5" harddrive I use in my A1200 did reset itself at the same time as I did a reset of the Amiga, so the harddrive would never be detected at boottime. I could find it using HDToolBox though.

So on advice from a friend I cut off the Reset pin of the HD (I believe it was pin 1?) and now it works fine except it's not spinning up fast enough when I do a coldboot.
Slightly bored and severly confused..

Pin one - the red one :-)
