Thanks to all for there help but I have to hold my hand up and say I wish I had tried the easy route to sorting out my problems with my 4xEIDE'99
because after all the trouble of checking and rechecking every thing I had a thought about the install floppy and tried my copy and low and behold I am now up and running and thrown the original install away and I am well pleased so thanks again and thanks for some very useful facts best wishes Brian.:):):):):):):)

Not entirely true, since buffered IDE adapters allows for a higher MaxTransfer value to be used on the partitions (0x1FFFE instead of 0x1FE00). This should give a slight increase in speed.

Would a buffered interface benefit an 020 or 030 accelerated A600? I read some where that it doesn't. If it does, I might have to get one myself one.

Not sure if it's really worth it. The slightly higher speed it can offer may be considered as an extra "bonus" if you already have such an interface.

Are you running one in your A1200? I am, no real speed gain between using one and the onboard.

FastATA and my 060 on the other hand is a massive increase.

I have a IDEfix Express in my main A1200, and one of those cheap 4-way adapters that AmigaKit sold a few years ago in my other A1200.

The speed gain mainly goes for when large files are being copied, under normal use the difference isn't really that big. If the MaxTransfer value is set to 0x1FE00 or lower on the partitions, the speed will of course not be any faster.

The IDE fix express gives some gains, not sure about the cheap 4 way adapters. But this Elbox product doesn't produce much difference in transfers.

It is a good product for cheaply adding a DVD and HDD though.
