Ah well, I have just had my credit card disabled on Paypal... turns out it wasn't the "##9999" number after all.

Thanks for everyone's help though.

Maybe they were asking for the CVV number, which is located at the back of the card, where the signature is. It's an extra number, on newer cards, though. But I cant remeber if it's 3 or 4 digit, though.
Anyway is the only way

You should email paypal and explain the whole thing. Make sure to mention step by step what you did. Of course, calling them is faster. Also, email the seller.

Presumably you've reached the spending limit in your paypal account. The limit which is set until you upgrade your account with the number on your CC statement.

Same happened to me, fear not, as you're not verified you haven't got much to lose, so like I did not long ago, close that paypal account, create a new one, add your card.

You now have a new spending limit (800 quid for me in the UK) and another charge will go to your CC.

Keep checking your CC statement for a week until it appears, then when you have it, enter it next time you log in.

Worked for me.

He said he did that. That's what it looks like to me as to what he said he did. Only sure way to straighten it out would be to contact Paypal. Setting up another account might lead to the same problem if it's a misunderstanding of the instructions.

Yeah, sorry, perhaps I shouldn't have included that disclaimer, its just that some people miss the sarcasm or subtle humour or whatever and go on the offensive!

(In The Simpsons Dr Nick's voice)

Hello everybody,

I wrote to Paypal regarding this prior to me writing on A.org. They had replied by the time I woke up, and now everything is fixed!

For future reference... the Expanded Use Number that is requested is that which appears on your credit card statement as follows...
as an example:

"1234*member"

So you just need to type that in!

NOT the (as an example):

"##1234" (which is right next to the $1.95 surcharge)

I think that that is the transaction number or something, and is NOT the number required by Paypal.

Once again thanks for the input everyone... especially to Slash... who didn't want me to miss his advice! :-D
