Amiga 4000 Help

Thanks for the help! I ended up fixing it.

I formatted the HD, reinstalled Workbench 3.0.
Dragged all the video modes into the dev/monitors directory on workbench
and its perfectly clear now!

Thats great.  Just to be fair to Commodore engineers, the 1950 monitor was more meant for Amiga 3000, in fact all marketting material we have shows it on top of A3000.

Well today I tried to use a Sony Multisync monitor, I couldnt get it to do anything

Hi

When you obtain any Amiga the user-startup file probably should be your first port of call to try and work out the history of the computer and see just how the previous user used their machine. Also Tool Types can be edited and various scripts written. Customization is the great strength of the Amiga, but can be a touch puzzling when machine and peripherals become severed.

I got an A4000/040 and it has this weird key place on the front.  The person I bought this from didn't include the key thing and I want to know what this does.  Will not having the key disable functions of my computer?

It is a generic keyboard lock key.  If your keyboard works, your good!  Anyone who had a A4000 that I knew never used the key and usually lost them!

As for trying it out while not haveing a keyboard...  Well, you could find a generic BIG-din to PS/2 style adapter and plug in the A2000 KB you have...  Heck, find an old KVM switch and your set!

It has keyboard and a nice mouse.  I'm sure there's something that isn't compatible between it and the A520 and that's why it's not showing up on the screen.  I have a feeling this computer is all good.  I may have to install OS 3.9 or whatever newer Amiga OS I choose on it, but really I'm just really anxious for a monitor.  I don't understand why it's not compatible with the A520 (in thread search A520 to contribute to that if you want :p), but knowing Amiga stuff, I'm guessing there is some reason...:griping:

Monitor coming is Commodore 1960.  This monitor sounds nice but I heard there's some stuff that can go wrong with it too.  Does that ring-shaped magnet you use on old CRTs help at all with small display anomalies on old multisync monitors like this? A teacher at school was showing some various cool stuff like how to discharge a CRT without getting electrocuted and also he showed this magnet.  One of my old monitors has a "degauss" button on it.  Is the circular magnet the same thing?

Good for you, and hello. I snagged a 1950 for real cheap  recently, but, it needs some work to display as clearly as yours.

by the way: thanks for the reassurance about the key.  I was pretty sure it was needless to worry since you can either adjust it with a needle nose pliers or just disconnect it from the mobo.  i just wanted to make sure!

I thought that avatar was familiar. I remember it from the arcade forums. Haven't been there for a few months now (can't afford all of my hobbies at once).

I'll move back to the arcade stuff once my new garage/gameroom is finished.

What are your plans for the Amigas? Games, just tinkering?
