Different (better) Southbridge = same board ?
Different (better) BIOS = same board ?

Here we go again...

I have a few questions for you Kronos:

1. Exactly what is "better" with the southbride on the Pegasos? I might be newer but what features does it give the pegasos that the a1 is missing? Or is there a speed advantage using this "better" southbride chip?

2. What is "better" with the bios for the pegaos? AFAIK, both the bios of Pegasos and A1 has unique features (like FFS in the Pegasos bios and the x86-emulator in the A1 bios). So can you elaborate why you think the bios in the Pegaos is better?

BTW, did you know that AOS4 is better than Morphos? :-P

DCE won't repair the Pegasos boards, get your facts straight.

This piece of information was not known to me before. I must say it's a great relief.

Umm ... if DCE, the manufacturer, wont do repairs ... who will  :-?

That information would be interesting for A1 too.

@Wittgenstein

1. FireWire, better IDE (less bugs). Not sure if  digital-audio
is also part of the southbridge.

2. PPCBoot is/was intended for embedeed-devices, not for desktops.

BTW: You really think that having intuition&co on one A4k (68k)
and the kernel on another (PPC) is better than a fully running
system on a brandnew mobo ? Interesting I must say  :-P  :-P
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

I can add firewire on a PCI-card so there is no big deal. But you say Pegasos has "better" IDE since it has "less bugs". Can you please tell us what kind of IDE-bugs the A1 will have? Also, since I am a hifi-guy I will, if I want to use the computer for music stuff, add a nice soundcard and not use crappy onboard stuff.

And this means that it cant be better?  I thought you where smarter...

BTW, I will never buy a mobo that hasnt been out to the masses more than 1 month (or less since the betatesters are not public) which is only bugtested using one specific hardware setup. :-P

The VIA 686B southbridge has an bug that can corrupt HD data if used together with for example Soundblaster cards. It can be fixed using some software patches.

Yeah, I know, but let me rephrase my question:

Can you please tell me what kind of IDE-bugs the A1 will have AFTER all patchable know bugs has been removed (by patch in the BIOS or the OS).

"What bugs will this software have after all bugs
have been fixed?" :-)

ALL PATCHABLE BUGS. There are a LOT of work around made in software. The only bugs you, as a user need to worry about are those which are not patchable. Do you think I, as a user,  care how many hardwarebugs that are patched by Bplan or Hyperion?

Please read my posts before you rush into conclusions.

IMO Kronos just wants to spread biased FUD regarding the AmigaOne. Nothing new.

If you want your hardware to be supported by AmigaOS4, sooner rather than later, the AmigaOne will be your best option. (enventual PEGASOS support will depent on many yet uncertain factors)

Both the Pegasos and AmigaOne offer a very identical solution. The most important differences however are:

- The PEGASOS has a replacable CPU board. AmigaOneG3-SE has a soldered CPU and  the AmigaOne-XE board has a CPU socket.

- With the PEGASOS you can use a mircoATX case but at the expense of one PCI slot.

- Pricing is another important factor, definite pricing is still unknown. Trade-in options will be available.
