Well, yeah, that's how I cut my teeth soldering - making up leads I couldn't find/afford. Unfortunately that machine, while it has the RGB pinouts of CGA (I think - RGB DB9 anyway), the sync signal is too low for most TVs to accept and needs to be bumped up, making it slightly more complicated. A transistor, a resistor and a 12V line from somewhere would do it, but that's a bit more than your average My First Lead (tm). ;-)
