Hey Thomas,
is the "Installer tool" in the c: directory in the OS3.1
install disk?

So if I understand correctly it would appear that something happenned in transit that stopped the CD working. That would probably mean a knock or a bump had moved one of the cables. It maybe that whatever you install in the meantime will not get the drive working if a cable needs to be pushed into place. Turn the power off first. Good luck.

my wild guess is that you don;t have the righ version as asimCDFS.
1,You should boot with 3.1 install disk.
2,format system: disk
3, launch 3.1 install
(this will give you are super clean install)
4, install asimCDFS unsing the installer in the asinCDFS disk
5, make sure to choose (atapi.d.., not scsi!)
(if the installer can't find your drive.
-make sure its connected right (power and ide)
-make sure the master/slaved setting are correct for your   setup..
6, the insall should finish without error.

Otherwist try some of the other CDFS sytems out there, I have used asimCDFS for years no problems.....

make sure you make an emergency disk when you install 3.9....otherwise you may have to deal with this again!

No, it's in the root directory. Just enter

copy Install3.1:Installer c:

and

copy Install3.1:Installer sys:utilities

into a Shell window.

Bye,
Thomas

Thanks for the reply, Angus.
Believe me, that was one of the first things I did.
I also swapped out the CD_ROM.
I think the problem is the installation of ASIMDCFS.
There have been a few gracious people on this board that are helping me out.

Cheers,
Wolf

Hi Pierre,
Does it matter if the "slaved CDROM" is on the end connector of the 40 pin cable?
I know this makes a difference in the PC hardware.

Thanks Thomas, I will try this approach this weekend.
Boy, the reason I got back into the Amiga was to utilize some of the music programs that the PC world has yet been able to match.

Many years ago, I had a A3000.What a great machine it was!
This A4000 is a different beast though!
I know once this initial setup is established, this will enhance my studio, like it once did.

Thanks again for your continued efforts! :-)
