@TheMagicM

Well, I know 0 about cars, but all I know is that there was this video with a Twin Turbo Grand National car, and it does about 1073HP....Heh, if you need the video for proof, i can send it to you sometime, let me know

And my friend has a 1991 Ford Taurus SHO, and apparently its pretty good for just stock racing against another stock.

Meh, but what do I know, what are you inputs of these cars?  :-D

heh, was gonna get an 82 Corvette with a blowered 454, but got the jag instead. got a 5.3ltr V12 in the garage for it that i was gonna take out to 8.4 or 9.1ltr with quad cam heads, but seriously need to sort out the suspension for the front end as the cars with 12's used to go through front bushes like petrol.

what can i say, i like lazy comfy cruisers...

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD

A v12 Jag is going to sound awesome, especially when the block is taken out that far.  Sure, a Corvette actually sounds quite nice, but the Jag wins hands down on that score.

Don't know if you'd be interested in this, but a few years back Performance Car magazine turned up an original 7 litre Lister Jaguar XJ12 from the 70s.  The power output was said to be monstrous (especially in a then 25 year old exec saloon), but certainly brought a smile to the face of the lucky driver.

Jag bits are also used regularly in the custom car scene; the independant rear suspension uses lower wishbones and the drive shafts as the upper locating links.  The whole assembly is mounted on a subframe and thus can be fitted to a custom project.  Makes a better bet than a leaf sprung live axle IMHO...

Isn't that how the whole US muscle car thing started?  Take a standard saloon body and lob in some serious cubic inches.

The same recipe has stood the test of time, with such luminaries as the Lotus Cortina, Mini Cooper, Golf GTi, Sierra Cosworth and Subaru Impreza Turbo being popular here over the years.

All of those are more sportscars, the emphasis there being good handling rather than power.  Musclecars have stuff like extra springs in the right for a better launch, rather than coilovers and sway barrs ;-)

The GNs are nice, minor tweaks for the 13s easily :-) GNXs are even nicer!

MagicM - if you're running a 1050 with heads to match, that counts as tuned :-D I've got 8.5:1 compression, but big valves, uprated valvesprings, mild cam, 750 vac Holley, Performer intake, cheap headers and Flowmasters.

With that compression I can nearly take a whizz in the tank to refuel!

The quickest street legal car here runs a Twin Turbo BBC, fitted into an Audi 80 body for consistent 8.6s.  For street legal they have to complete a cruise that includes speed humps etc, and having seen it run it goes nice around town :-D

As for the Jag, good luck with the project, and I thought having 8 plugs was a pain, lol.  The Rodders here seems to be using Volvo back ends more and more, the simplicity and strength of a solid rear axle seems to appeal more than the 'bling' of IRS these days ... and serious cars would quite often bend/snap Jag halfshafts as they were never designed for 700hp and 33" slicks.

sorry thats not correct.  I can slap on a carb on any motor and that doesnt mean its tuned.. what I mean is by adjusting timing, jetting on the carb, suspension etc.  Or my car could be running real rich etc.  I know I can get more power out of it then what its running now.  :-)

ok, semantics gap here, generally (in brit American car circles) 'tuned' is referring to improved components over bone stock.

Jetting, timing, playing with your pressures etc would just be 'fine tuning' - on a post '73 car you've gotta get the mixture right on a big carb setup anyway, or it won't pass the emmisions test!

thanks :) the XJS is really going to be an engine test bed / fun street car as the engine (finances over the course of my entire life permitting ;) ) is going to go into an XJ13 build (mid engine, getrag 6speed box rebuilt to handle the power, lemans thing) with totally updated guts (6pot brakes, door handles that are NOT pieces of wire etc etc.) but again, that is all pie in the sky stuff... but hey, i can dream.

The stock IRS should be fine for a circuit racer as thats what it was designed for - if it's a lightweight body a stock motor should make it pretty quick anyway :-)

With that kinda stuff you need space and time more than anything - oh, what I could do if I only had a garage! (lottery ticket in hand :-D)

I couldn't afford a double-pumper (I run a vacuum secondaries one, cheaper to buy and cheaper on fuel:-D) or the cheapest Weber setup for big block Mopar (four of 'em on a custom inlet - it has been done).

Horses for courses I guess - it's hard to beat twin 40s on a well built 1275 Mini ;-)
