I am not too sure.

I had to install a driver for Windows XP for it to work before plugging in the USB part on the PC.

When the USB adapter has a PSX controller attached and it is plugged into the PC it is recognised as a USB playstation controller and you can bring up its custom configuration and setting by going to the standard 'game controllers' in control panel.

It quite a cheap adapter BTW an I  reccomend it.

The one im talkin about lets you use all buttons and analog as well as digital movement. It also supports duall shock vibration feedback. :-)

USB seems ideal for sending all those signals at a decent speed, that why I i think it would be great for Amigas rather than tryin to use the game ports or slower serial ports.

Cannonfodder: Well, if special Drivers are needed I cannot say for sure if it will work... is there a SDK for developers (or Linux Drivers) available ?

I am thinking to investigate if PSX Port can be made working on the A1 with a new Driver... not right now, though.

Ok question to set my mind to rest before I spend some money.

Will a genuine master system, and/or a 3rd party megadrive pad "plug and play" with an amiga 500? Thanks.

If those controllers are for Sega,  then yes.  You get one fire button and usually, the turbo function works.  With the mod described above and in the text describing the ADoom archive on Aminet,  you get +5v correctly routed, all buttons work in ADoom (even Start and Mode, making 8 total), 2 fire buttons in other games that utilized them.  I don't know yet if other Amiga games were written to this Sega standard.  I believe this modified Sega controller will replace a CD32 controller for games written to that standard, but I haven't tested this yet.

Ami500;

Why not buy a 15 USD PSX-adaptor from www.tototek.com or www.liksang.com?

Then you can plug your PSX pad directly in any Amiga!!! And use 2 buttons + analogue...

You just have to swap one wire in the MD/Genesis -> PSX adaptor that can be purchased from those two links, and off you go!!!

BPPC 210/060, 256MB, ZIV + Mediator ZIV, Spider II, Voodoo 3, Terratech 512i, MAS Player PRO, Pixelview TV Pro, X-Surf II, Kickflash OS4, VARIO, SilverSurfer, Fast ATA ZIV, Int.SD/FF, Seagate Barracuda V 60GB, 12x CD/RW, 52X CD/R, Punchillos III, PSX-A...

Because right now it will be much cheaper and easier if I can buy some new megadrive pads to "plug and play" as it were, (AUD$12), rather than $15USD on an adapter and another whatever it is $$ on a PSX pad. :) But that may be an option in the future if I ever feel the need for analogue sticks. :)

Tenacious, do you have a direct link to the file you got that pad modifying information from? I can't seem to find what you are referring to on aminet. Thanks.

@ami500

My ISP is giving me trouble tonite, I'll be quick!  Do a search for ADoom-1.3.lha.  The details are in the Description text. If you DL the archive, that same text file is included with it.  It's just a verbal proceedure, no pics or schematic.  If I can get my scanner working, maybe I'll upload a view of the inside of the joypad.  E-mail if I can be of use.

Now that's what I call a durable joystick - Skorpion! :-D I use one since 1996 and it was repaired (by it's manufacturer) only once! How prosaic! The cable solder was pulled out :-).

But actually we talk about CD32 gamepads so...

... this is the right solution from the same maker. Boomerang is made in many different standards for many platforms (PC, Nintendo, Sega, Amiga etc.) - gotta check it 'cause finding a genuine CD32 pad in good shape is getting harder and harder these days :-(.
Cheers...
