Okay, that's bad. Does the manual list the pinout of that connector? Maybe somebody on here knows it? It should be easy to build a custom adapter once you know the pinout.
Another solution would be to slaughter an old external A500/600/1200 PSU: just use the connector that plugs into the A1200 and some of the wire attached to it. Reroute this into the tower case and connect it to the wires of the original motherboard connecters of the AT PSU. This, together with the floppy power connector should solve any power load problems that might be present.
If you have a broken (or unused) external PSU, this might be the easiest way to check if your problems *are* indeed caused by power load.
