@ Runequester

Any chance you could make a video of your Amiga running the net and post it on YouTube... :)

Might just encourage me to finally do so myself if I could only see for myself the Amiga running a browser and just how much or little it can do... :)

I don't have a camera either my YouTube videos are captured by hooking the Amiga up the DVD recorder in my Living room and the burning them to DVD and then I use the Mac to upload them... :)

No I don't mean a cd rom or dvd player on the Amiga, I mean the DVD recorder under the telly in your living room that you use to record TV progs (the modern version of a video recorder)... :)

Hey Franko,
Now that I've found out that Amiga 1200s can be expanded with 48Mhz '030s and even 80Mhz '060 I'm suddenly interested in buying some retro hardware.
What web browsers work on Amigas. I've gotten spoiled by OWB, but I can adapt to something cruder.

BTW - Nice to have you back.

Erm... can't answer that for you, never had a miggie online before, but after finally last week disassembling AWeb and currently in the process of converting it to re-assemble this time in true 68K (Not C like the original is written in) I've allready spotted a couple of hundred optimisations that can be made to it that should speed it up a wee bit... :)

I use screen capture software on the PC: Hyperionics. On WinUAE there is a built-in recorder. Is there no screen capture for Amiga?

Plenty of static screen grab programs, but I've never managed to find a movie capture type of prog for the Amiga, that's why I have to resort to using the DVD recorder, it does a good quality job though... :)

I've posted this before but here's a screen capture of iBrowse running on my 50Mhz 68030:-

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=14975080&l=c77753faff&id=546790172

Edit: Also another of the actual machine ...

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=17110328&l=3aaaae5c89&id=546790172

It works, is reasonably fast, but obviously doesn't do CSS.  Did someone have a proxy configured to do some magic here?

Thanks for those pics... :) (would still like to see a Video of it in action though)

Reckon it's time to buy one of those net cards (if AmigaKit have any in that is) and give it whirl on my 060, any recommendations for which card to buy as I've heard the wireless ones are pretty slow... :)

Hi Franko,

There's usually a number of PCMCIA ethernet cards available on amibay.   I believe most old (16 bit PCMCIA, NOT Cardbus) 3com cards will work too (so probably easy to find for a few quid on ebay).

I'd noticed quite a few on ebay this week but not knowing much about them I wasn't sure, Id prefer to buy a new one from AmigaKit but they only have the wireless one now and MrMoonlight who bought one of each said the wireless on was pretty flaky compared to the wired one... :)

Need to have another look on ebay and try and decide which one is best... :)

wireless is a lot more of  a pain to set up, but I dont think mine is flaky at all. In fact, its been pretty rock solid so far.

You do need to have a wireless router of course.

Wireless is easier on a 1200 or 600, as you can use PCMCIA cards. There's ethernet cards for the zorro equipped miggy's but they require wire.

I think I may just buy the wireless one and give it a try then, MrMoonLight (Brian) had never used an Amiga until a few months ago and I was helping him over the phone to try and set up his A1200 with HD etc...

I think he was having problems getting it right though, between my Scottish accent and trying to explain how to format HDs and install OS3.9, it's not quite so easy trying to explain things over the phone so maybe he just didn't set the wireless card up right... :)

Think I'll head over to AmigaKit now and order one, I shouldn't really but heck after spending over £400 on Sunday on ebay for some old VIC20 & C64s and quite a few other bits n bobs what's difference is another 40 quid gonna make, it's only money after all... :)

(Need to go and get the 2 Vic20s and one of the C64s out of the bathtub after they arrived today, they were manky, should be nice & clean now though... :))

I made this youtube last year to show how my recently acquired LCD monitor worked with some retrogaming hardware. At 6.15 you can see my 68030 50 MHz miggy 1200 accessing the net. It's loading this page. You can compare the results. In the spanish-spoken voice-over I'm commenting how long it takes just to show the logo of the site ^_^'

(at 6.15 :) )

Thanks for that rockersuke... :)

Finally I've got see the speed an Amiga can browse the net... :)

Not dead slow but I don't think I could use it myself but then I suppose it also depends on what hardware your Amiga is using. Still, any optimisations I can  make to AWeb can only be a good thing, I reckon... :)

My machine seems much faster than this using iBrowse ... I'll try to record a video myself :)

I await that with eager anticipation... :)

Thank for those Cammy... :)

Handy link that, in the first video IBrowse (I believe your using) it seems to run reasonably fast, what accelerator board do you have in that miggie... :)

I've seen the second video before and forgot that you were actually playing an online game in it... doh... :)

Been looking at those cards on ebay all week but wasn't sure about them, now I can check them out with the link you gave... thanks... :)

I don't have a FPU for it yet so IBrowse needs to use the CPU for everything and Javascript just makes everything much slower.

I've got an old MC68882 (PGA Type) FPU chip here you can have, I bought it years ago for my old GVP030 board but at 50Mhz all I get is a yellow screen when I boot up so it must be one that can't run at 50Mhz, it's yours if you want it, just let me know if it's any use to you... :)

@Franko, as a bit of a 68K ASM fan, I'm just curious about what tools and methodology you use to go about disassembling programs.
(...Not trying to Hi-Jack this thread so perhaps a PM or starting a different thread would be better for a reply)

Regards,
AmigaEd

For the most part I use ReSource V6 for disassembly, but I also use quite a number of MON Progs which are handy for testing/debugging and things like BarFly... :)

I'll send you a PM today/tomorrow with more details if you want, right now I'm just about to have my dinner and go to bed, it's 1:26am here and I forgot to eat today so I'm a wee bit peckish and getting tired... :)
