Re: Fusion Forty and Cybervision64/3D

Hi everybody.

I'm picking up this old post because I'm having the same problem now.

Did somebody solved this hardware issue in the meanwhile?

I have an Amiga 2000 with KS 3.1, Cybervision 64/3D, a SCSI controller ALF2 and a A2630. Everything was working perfecly until I decided to upgrade to 68040!

I bougth from ebay the Fusion Forty 68040 with 32Mb RAM on board and the last Plug&Go ROM 3.4.

I put it on the system and... nothing. My system won't boot at all.
Ok, I started without startup-sequence and it booted, so I removed the setpatch line from the startup sequence and now the system works.
But I haven't found a way to make the Cybervision working again. The system doesn't detect it in any way.

Another strange thing is that if I move the boards on the zorro bus and I put the Cybervision before the SCSI card, the system doesn't detect the SCSI as well...

I tried also to remove some memory from the FF40 but nothing...

Can somebody guide me into a solution?

Thanks everybody!

I hope my Amiga will live forever!!

Looks strange to me that here nobody has a similar setup...

Any advise?

It might work, but not reliably. Setpatch loads the CPU library, needed for the accelerator to operate correctly. (Does the Fusion Forty require a special 68040.library?) I'd give the one from the MMULib package a try, and go from there.

Oh great! So do you think that playing with the Setpatch parameter I can have the luck to make the CV643D to be seen by the FF40?

I tried to play with it for a while, the best result is that the system doesn't recognise the filesystem of the DH0: anymore!

Well, you definitely need a working CPU library. In your Sys:Libs drawer, there should be a file named 68040.library, which is loaded by setpatch if a 68040 processor is detected. However, this Commodore supplied library doesn't work with every accelerator - some require their own special library.

I suspect this to be the problem with the Fusion Forty (in which case the library from the MMULib package might not work, either).

My advice - download the Fusion Forty software here, see if it includes a 68040.library. Install it, uncomment setpatch and give it a try.

Thanks for the information!

That's I already did.
Replaced the 68040.library, uncommented the setpatch and at the next reboot I get the message "Not a DOS disk in device DH0:" Until now there is no way to get it working.
There is another command provided by the Fusion Forty and it is SetFF. There are some parameters to be set and I tried a lot. Sometimes it freeze during boot, sometimes boot with no problem. But there is no way to make setpatch working good. I tried various version of SetPatch. Even the last one in the emergency disk of the OS 3.9 but nothing.

In the meanwhile I bought a Merlin graphics card. Just to see if that's an hardware incompatibility. I'm just waiting for the postman to knock my door! :)

Thanks again... I hope to make my Amiga working at its best!

Quick question - what OS version are you running? If it's 3.5/3.9, have you tried disabling the ROM update?

It's OS 3.9 over a kickstart 3.1...
How to disable the ROM update?

It booted!
Seems to be working better now.... but still doesn't see the CV64/3D!

Btw... thanks for this... it's a good progress!

Great, sounds like you're getting there. Is the CV3D recognized by Scout or ShowConfig?

No, it's not recognized anywhere. Even during the boot, it doesn't appear in the expansion board list pressing the 2 mouse buttons.

If you remove the SCSI card, does the CV3D show up in the early startup?

No, I just tried. Nothing.
Another strange thing: if I change position and I put the CV643D before the SCSI in the zorro bus, also the SCSI is not detected anymore by the system...

Is the CV64/3d a bit flakey ?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean with flakey, but...
No... It was perfectly working with the A2630...

I hope to make it working with the Merlin.
If you see here, the Merlin should works "Great!"

Unfortunately the CV64/3D is not mentioned anywhere in the FAQ...

By the way... Would be good to buy a Blizzard... but now it's really too expensive...

If the Merlin works with my A2000, my plan is to buy a 4000/040 and put the CV64/3D into it... I believe that it will be more performant than the 2000!

We'll see!

I'll keep you updated! Thanks for now! :)
