Wierd, mine is still working since bought (towered).
But as part of your clean up, go get a can of compressed air (radio shack) and blast it from a distance, clear and clean.
You will have to solder the thing back on to the new battery. You should be fine.
My blizz board melted the ppc fan eventually, but still works fine with just case fans - look out for that...
