Allways unplug your computers when there is a thunderstorm!!
I'm not sure I'd go that far. If I were to, I'd unplug every electronic appliance in the house. I've had a modem fried in a thunderstorm before, that was when lightning took out a telegraph pole, and a good few phones and modems near my house. The computer was unaffected. Serial modem though.
