The Endian problems were not a problem of rtgmaster, but of some applications (for example Nightlong). The docs recommend that you should provide data in the correct format for the graphics card used. Some programmers ignored this.
BTW: Yes, rtgmaster is dead. I did recently try out a rtgmaster program under OS 4 though
