If the gentleman already has a 1200, going out and shelling out 400+ dollars for a 4000 is probably not the way to go.

Get one of the ACA cards if they are still available. For most classic amiga stuff, an 030 will do great, and they have more RAM than you'll know what to do with.

Graphics cards are nice but I guess I never felt the need. Seems to make it more of a PC. I got one of those already.

So I hate to be on-topic and all...

While a 3000 or 4000 is very expandable, it'll also cost him at least 200 bucks extra (and thats aiming low). Throw in a ton of money to get upgrades for it.

He already stated he wanted to expand his 1200, so why not point him in the right directions there? :)
Especially if he's on a budget

Ive been using an external scan doubler and it's been fine, though it doesn't use interlace modes well.

I'll likely grab an indivision when they come back out

Dear friends:

All i wanted was to get advice about expanding my amiga 1200.
I did not intend to start war world III.
I appreciate all sincere feedback.
I decided to quit using my a1200 for 3d work,
I will instead use lightwave 3d on my pc
and the new aladdin pc version when it comes out.
So from now on I will mainly use my amiga 1200 for:
-painting -deluxe paint 4- and -digi paint-
-cartoon animation -moviesetter-
-game programming - amos pro-
As you see I do not require lots of computing power
and I already have a GVP jaws 030/50mhz + 32 mb ram.
I would like a new accelerator but as you see what I have is good enough,
but I would not mind expanding my ram to the max.
I will be completely dedicated to use my amiga for
painting, 2d animation, and game programming.
Thank you for your honest advice.

For your uses, an 030/50 should be ample. Networking and USB would be the biggest things to get.

If you find a good deal for an ACA030/56, might be worth it (64 megs of RAM, and the RAM is faster too) but Im not sure its hugely worth it in your case.
