Trying to figure out which controller to boot from
« on: July 15, 2013, 04:38:38 AM »
Which would make a better (faster/better through put) controller for a hard drive in my A2000, the SCSI II interface on my GVP '040 accelerator (connected to an SCSI III or better drive) or the IDE connector on an X -SURF 3CC board (connected to an ATA100 or 133 drive)?

Does anyone know if GVP used a wide or narrow fast controller (I'm inclined to think the former)?

OK, that is kind of what I thought.
Plus I have some later SCSI drives that are backward compatible with the right adapter.
Imagine an Amiga with a 10,000 or 15,000 rpm drive.
BTW - What problems am I'm going to have to deal with in terms of drive (or partition) size limitations?

You're still going to be limited by the xfer speed of your controller.

The usual - depends on the capability of your controller and whether you're using 3.1 vs 3.9, FFS/SFS/PFS, etc.

Of course, still, having a drive that exceeds the specs of the controller won't hurt performance.
I still haven't heard as to whether GVP used a wide or narrow fast controller (although considering when it was made, narrow seems likely).

The setup?
3.9 with a  PFS3 filesystem.
