@Atheist

Although quite a few of the programs you quote there have Modern Equivalents ;-) , you do highlight one area that hasn't really been covered on this thread yet, and that's programming.

Sure, we've been told GCC will be the compiler of choice for writing applications for OS4, and Arexx is being included, but AMOS and the like certainly helped people ease into programming, without going from bare-minimum amateur straight onto C-based full-on application programming.

@All

Apart from GCC and Arexx, what else do people feel is needed / could be useful on the programming front?

@Staticman

SHEEP could be interesting if it's intended as an Arexx scripting language-type replacement, although I had a hazy idea it was planned for later on eg. 4.1 or 4.2.

@ Olle

I know what you mean. Although I haven't done much with StormC (I think it's v3 I have, the one included with the OS3.5 DevCD, anyway), but I do like the fact that it's still one of the most up-to-date (relatively speaking, that is...) C Packages specifically for the Amiga, particularly with an IDE and stuff.

If H+P really do fade away, then something uptodate with an IDE for the Ami will be particularly good (no comments regarding commercial viability though...)

As for Ren, well, I'm the only one likely to be online, as he got so frustrated with Windows, he chucked his PC out the glass variety ;-)  :-D

Yeah. I really like Storms IDE but the codegenerator leaves much to be desired to be honest.
If youre into gcc, GoldEd is very nice as a front end...

If GCC is to be The One then, perhaps all that's needed is to let people know that GoldEd makes a good front end. If it isn't already in there, include summat in the GoldEd installer to ask "Do you wish to configure GoldEd as a front end for GCC?". I dunno. I've never used GE  :-)
