Ordered a subway usb for my A1200D from Amigakit. It arrived within a week (extremelly fast considering it's Xmas time and Post Office services are dead slow). So far so good BUT: when i connected the subway to my miggy and installed poseidon v4.2, nothing really happened so i ended up wondering what on earth i should do. Tried to run Trident from Prefs (as suggested in the installation procedure) but all i got was a "Failed to open muimaster.library" message. Obviously i downloaded and tried to install the missing library. Found mui3.8usr.lha on aminet and tried to install it too but no avail again. Has anyone experienced problems like these while trying to install Subway on their systems?

My config is an A1200D, PPC, Bvision, internal cd, hd, 160mb ram...running OS 3.9. Also tried the above on a 3.1 partition but nothing again. I desperately need help as this is the last step that i have to make in order to complete my "all in the original case" project.

You need to install MUI (using the included installer), but I assume you already did that. You also have to make sure that your workbench screen is tall enough to allow opening of the Trident prefs window. 256 pixels is not enough. It should open at 400 pixels or more.

Finally, please RTFM regarding the use of the product.

Install MUI sounds right but where can i download it from? The one i downloaded from aminet just doesn't "work". Is the "3.8usr|" the right one? Besides, i tried the resolution of WB but it keeps popping up the same message, so i suppose that i have to seek the right MUI version. Any help?

The archive MUI 3.8 Usr is the right one. As jrfjunior pointed out, there might be a problem with some "alien" unarchiving tools that will chock on the "smily icon" file, which consists only of a space character file name. Unarchiving the lha archive with the standard "lha" tool in the shell will work.

Can we call it progress really? New messages:

COPYLIB: Can't open file "  " in line 299
Dos Error Type: Unable to locate a file or drawer

I suspect that it will be sth really not so big that ruins the process

As I and others have pointed out, there is a file in the MUI archive with only a " " (space) as filename.

From this Article http://www1.uk.freebsd.org/docs/rview/AmigaOS39revie.txt:

"The Unarchivng applet has an interesting feature. When unarchiving, any files with a space in their names are renamed, with the spaced filled in with an underscore character. This was noticed by someone (sorry, I can't remember your name :) who was installing MUI and the installed bombed out asking for a file that had been remaned by the applet. Since AmigaDOS allows spaced in filenames, it seems odd that an OS application should have this behaviour. Bug or design decision? You can confirm this by archiving your Devs: directory. Upon unarchiving with the applet, Amiga OS ROM Update will be renamed Amiga_OS_ROM_Update."

So the solution is, as Darrin et al have pointed out:

Open a shell window (Execute Command "newshell" in Workbench or double click on the shell icon) and enter the following commands (assuming you already have lha -- if you don't, the Rescue-Image of the Deneb Flashrom comes with the "lhex" standalone extractor which will work equally well):

Cd RAM:
lha x pathtoyourMUIusr38.lha

Now you should be able to install MUI from your Ram Disk.

Sorry for being such a tiring person with the same problem again but still no luck. Re-read the manual and guide, did everything as described, saved config (psdstackloader) in ENVARC but now i get the following message in error log:

Failure poseidon.library
Opening DEVS:USBHardware/subway.device unit 0 failed device/ unit failed

Hope that helps a bit! Any ideas please?

First, the manual states what is considered to be a useful "bugreport", which means including *all* information necessary for analysis. It's much less tiring if you give a complete copy&paste output of the PsdErrorlog, which also can be saved from Trident or be sent via the Online-Report feature.

If what you wrote above is a direct copy of the errorlog, the error is that the device is not named "subway.device" but rather "subwayusb.device" and you have to use exactly that name, case sensitive. If you'd used the file requester for selecting the device instead of typing it in manually, this problem wouldn't have occurred.

Also, the subwayusb.device will be added to the default configuration during the *first time* installation of Poseidon, iff (sic!) the Subway was connected at that point of time.

First of all my miggy isn't connected to the net so copy/paste is out of question.

What i wrote is an exact  copy of the errorlog so it's pretty much the same. The device hasn't been typed by hand. I have selected it using the requester.

I see that i might have to make a fresh partition and re-install 3.9 + bb1 and 2 just in case. I remember installing Poseidon once but maybe during the first installation i did sth wrong that remained in the system so then everything goes wrong.

Also i remember having connected the Subway!!! I'm not so ignorant, but let me put this straight: not everybody around here is an amiga expert so whoever thinks that some question is silly he won't bother to answer. I could have mailed you but i prefered to make this public in order for someone having similar problems in the future to find solutions and not open a new thread.  ;-)

Thanx for your time anyway  :-)

Back to square one.

Please thoroughly read the posts. Half the postings in the past were caused by you not reading and doing exactly what was written there (multiple people said you should use "lha", but instead you insisted in using "unarc" which caused the problems in the first place). If some people give up on you after some time, this isn't about ignorance, but rather annoyance.

I need that errorlog. As I previously said, you can save it to disk too. Saving it to a PC disk would be an option, right? And then using a PC to post it here?

Possible reasons why the subwayusb.device fails to open:

1) Subway not connected to the clockport. Be aware that there are A1200s that have the wrong side of the connector populated (see printed manual), and connecting the subway to this connector will not work. Also connecting the Subway the wrong way round just once will burn and kill the hardware within a few seconds.

2) Subway broken. In this case, the subwayusb.device will either report different error codes, depending if it could be detected at all or if the self-test fails.

3) Wrong case in the file name. In this case, the device will not open.

4) Out of memory. Unlikely.

Ah yes, this is my last attempt too in retrieving some useful information for solving your problem. After that, you're welcome to continue using this forum for support. You know, usually its the other way round in the sense that people should contact the support by email first (and no, Amiga.org PMs don't count as emails).
