There are two adapters listed for the for 4000. one with switch and one with out.

Do Not attempt a repair if you do not know how to discharge high voltages. Schematic for one of the manufacture's of 4000 supply.

A switching power supply needs a load but if you use your mother board as a load and the mother board has a problem it could also cause your problem. A4000 mother boards are known for bad caps. Also A3640 caps.
