What's up with Hyperion's Website?
« on: June 10, 2009, 07:13:00 PM »
I created an account two weeks ago and still have not recieved and email.  I try to log in and it says my account has not been activated and is disabled.  They do not have a support section that I could find to send them and email.

I even did the I forgot my username.  It said it was sending it to my email address and still nothing.

Hyperion, if you are watching, I need help with my account.

Well, I just help fund their "project" with $138 US for OS4.1 and I need help with the install.  I would also like to see if there are any updates to it but I can't see them without being a member.

I'm not sure off hand because i am not home.  I know it is an 800MHz I want to say a 7455 or 9455 PowerPC processor.  My memory fails me.  It appears that it boots off the CD because kickstart loads slow.  When it loads from the HD it loads very fast.  I went into uboot and selected Amigamulti boot and selected idecdrom and saved it.  OS4.0 worked perfectly.  Is uboot 1.1.1 OS 4.1 compatible?  I updated it when 4.0 was on there.  It says March 5, 2005 I think.

I figure it is something stupid as well.  One thing I see odd in uboot.  If you hit enter when it is booting, you can select idedrive or cdrom which is a totally different menu than the amigamultiboot.  Maybe there is some trick to do there?

Yes it is a G4.  It has a Radeon 7000 64M, 256MB Ram, SoundBlaster, and I set up a 1GB swap file with 4096 block size.  The book didn't say how big so I went 4x the RAM like with Windows.

I'm thinking of replacing it with a Radeon 9000 256Mb and upgrading the ram to 512.  What is suggested for 4.1?  I don't see specs for it anywhere except the Radeon 9000.

Ebay has a lot of Radeon 9000s for $30-40 US and free shipping.  I think I'll get a 9000 256M on ebay and try that.  It seems they indirectly stress that because in their manual it shows the only screen settings for the Radeon 9k.  The only thing that doesn't make sense is why it boots from the CD to 4.1.  Grrrrr!

That is my thought as well.  The radio buttons are backwards on the install.  They are clear when selected and gray when not.  So I wanted to upgrade from 4.0 but ended up overwriting it with a 4.1 install instead of upgrade.  The second install which I figured i just upgraded 4.0 I found out it was an actual bare install.  The third install I formatted the system partition to remove any speck of 4.0.  I didn't create a SWAP partition in the beginning because the manual says it is not required but is recommend.  So I created a 1G Swap partition and formatted the System partition once more.  It still fails after the 4.1 splash screen.  I'll play with it tonight and see.

Karlos, did you upgrade from 4.0 or do a new install with 4.1?  I'm going to install 4.0 again and try to upgrade it.  It is worth a try, eh?

I started from scratch and created a 2Gig partition for the swap drive before I re-installed 4.0.  I installed 4.0 no problem.  Then I made sure I upgraded to 4.1.  It appears that the Radeon 7000 is the issue because when 4.1 comes up it only has the P96-0:FakeNative:640x480/256 colors and none of the 9000 screen modes.  I am going to buy a 9000 Radeon card.

Update:  After I posted last, 4.1 was working fine just the resolution was VGA.  So last night I tried to boot it up and it did the same thing as it did when i started the thread and went to black with no disk activity.  So I rebooted with the reset button and the same thing.  So I walked away from it for a few minutes and when I came back 4.1 Workbench was on the screen.

I have ordered a Radeon 9200 256M and 1G of ram for it.  We will see how that goes once installed.
