I would pay $200 for a Mystic Color Classic, but not for an iMac 700.

Unless you "just must have it," man just buy a mini the laptop drives in the mini are just as fast (4200RPM , the mini 80GB drive is actually 5400RPM I believe)... the processor is MUCH faster (the G4 makes a big difference)... it can have more RAM...

Basically you will like the peformance MUCH better.

I wouldn't pay more than $50 for a CRT iMac a any speed.

Just my two cents.

"However, isn't the Xbox an all inclusive computer/game console solution?"

I don't think so. Some cats will have Linux on it in a blink, but Linux just ain't OS 10. OS 10, is an OS you can geek on AND use AND have a good time doing it. I have a BeOS machine now to geek with (And a C-128D) and I have to admit that I boot into XP more than I like.

Not to bag on folks that like Linux, but it ain't my cup of tea... I saving for a new Mac currently. (I sold my old one in order to buy a springbar tent (canvas, best tent in the USA) and I've missed my Mac since about week two.)

"The OS would have to be as solid as OS10.4."

OS 10 just works. Then if you want to start screwing around with it? It is there for you as well.

What benifits?

Well there are the run-of-the-mill benifits you can find on most any advocacy site so I will simply say...

I have never regretted spending my money on an Apple computer, but I have twice built an x86 machine and then thought "I wished I had saved for a Mac."

I prefer the Mac enviroment/scene.

P.S. I also like the BeOS scene in general and the OS, but it being what it is... and the Morph vs. Amiga being what it is... I think you'll find the Mac scene is alive. We even have an old fashioned Mac User group in Utah that meets at the UofU. :-)
