From "new" amiga fan.
« on: April 24, 2008, 06:14:41 PM »
I welcome.
Has decided to write pair words about me.

Down to the beginnings 1990, because of politic, we can't get foreign things in the country. In Russia, it was practically impossible to find computers, except for self-made clones ZX Spectrum. And I have ZX too. Then, began to appear others computers. Many-many PC, some Atari, and few Amiga.
(In that case, here, in Russia, we do not have big Amiga fandom. And after all that years its no more then 30-60 active Amiga users, I think.)

Has got acquainted with Amiga 600 approximately in 1993.
I own my first Amiga 600 about 2 years, but only for playing games, watching demos and listen music. Wonderful time, I came from high-school and could stay for half day playing games. And a half night :)

Little bit later, I have entered the institute also to me was necessary PC, for training, and i switched to PC. All that years i always want to get Amiga back, but no chances to get - computer was rare and if was on sale, only under the high price.
Several years ago i managed to find some Amiga machines, in good conditions, and start to make up missed.
I start to learn AmigaOS, but sometimes its not easy to understand what i need to do, and what i get after. :) Almost all documentation in English, and few russian-speaking people, usually can't help me and explain something. :(

To help any other Russian people, with Amiga set up and configuration, and for 'history', i start 'Russian Amiga wiki' project (http://amiwiki.spb.ru). Now i try to understand and translate as much as i possible.

As, the last years I help with the organization CC demo party (http://cc.org.ru), and I show Amiga to visitors in 'exhibition of historical computers' on this party.

PS sorry, my English is really awful. I not bad read, but to write for me difficultly enough.

russia the land of the wonderful zx spectrum, i hear it got the biggest zx spectrum scene in the world

May be. Because spectrum clone - it is only one computer, that you can buy here since later 80, up to earlier 90. In my class each boy had a spectrum. (I call it clones, because here was no original spectrum at all, but many own designed board, with soviet logics chips, and only one original chip was z80 processor)

And I think here more ppl, who read forum, but not wery often post messages.

I had a spectrum as my first computer in the early 90's and remember reading an article about the two particular Russian clones that sounded pretty cool at them.

only two? i listen about 6-8 basic revision of original zx, and 3-4 enchanced version with many updates.

I also remember reading that the Speccy first became popular in the USSR because their small size made them easy to smuggle in.

No, Speccy popular, because it has simple scheme, and many Engineers may repeat this on soviet elements base. Becouse in 80 plain russian people can't buy any things from foreign country. And for Speccy it need to buy only CPU chip, and someone imported contraband these chips.
First time, when i see original ZX - about 2003-2004.

I just found a list of members of ATO Amiga Translator's Organisation.  The list was last updated in September 2001 but there were 13 Russian members so it possible some of them may still be reachable on the same emails.

thanks for searching. :)
since 2002(?) we have big central amiga russian site (amiga.org.ru), but only few people have some activity on it.
