There's an option in MakeCD to disable concurrent reads and writes. This could help in this case.

Try what I told you. It might be that the IDE bus is blocked while a write command is active, so no data can be read from the partition. This is even more probable with the drives being on different channels of the IDEfix adapter, because the read and write commands have to be finished before the IDEfix software can switch to the other channel. You should try to connect both devices as master and slave to the same channel.

The IDEfix adapter is not the same as the two disjunctive IDE controllers on a PC motherboard. The IDEfix only allows one IDE controller to be switched between two cables. But you can access only one cable at a time. If you read the manual of the IDEfix adapter, you'll see that you should first fill the first channel with a master and a slave before you use the second channel to connect a third and fourth device.

To my case the first channel is for my 2.5 HD. I can't connect 2 HDs on it, the cable is short and have only 1 connector. The second channel have the 3.5 DVD/CDRW as master too.

AFAIK the IDEfix adapter has one 2.5" connector and two 3.5" connectors. The 2.5" connector and the first 3.5" connector are shortened, so you can have the master on the 2.5" cable and the slave on the first 3.5" cable. So you should try to connect your CD writer to the other 3.5" connector and change the jumper to slave. It should then be scsi.device unit 1 (if idefix software is running) or atapi.device unit 1 (in any case) instead of unit 2 as before.

And there is still the "no concurrent reads and writes" option in MakeCD waiting to be tested.

If this is off, try with it on.

And vice versa. IIRC it is on by default but should be off in this case.
