I will answer this question best I can:

CHEAP and working.

:)

Why? No matter what you put into your A1200 (as far as 030), it is going to be painfully slow e.g. loading 640x480 picture in 256 colors take soooooooooome time. OK. To be more serious... there are differences between 030, but I would not care about it.

Would you say that iComp's 1233 accelerator with a 55 MHz cpu would be not so good of a choice, and finding an 040 is better?

What can I say... my old Apollo 040/33Mhz was MUCH, MUCH faster. Now I have 030/50Mhz and it is like... SLOW (030 is great to WHDLoad and to play a little with Workbench - everything works just slow)

You can look at numbers (MIPS etc.) and compare 030 vs. 040, but there is also one thing I (I know, just me ;) )noticed the most AGA is speeding up with faster processor which is really nice and you can install various "patches" that makes 040 very nice CPU.

With 040 you can try to emulate Mac and I was running MacOS 8.0 on my O40 with AGA and I was VERY happy (It works better then AmigaOS...).

EDIT: BUT you can get nice ("new"!) 030 from Jens :). They are very nice! It is on my wish list for one of my A1200...

Quick question. What would be best format (fastest) to use in slow Amiga? .iff? I need something to put on background that doesn't load 5 min ;).

I don't know, you'll have to ask Kreciu - he's the one who's loading pictures that are sooooo sloooooooow. I made an educated guess that he's loading  JPEG's. :)

No, really. I got .iff pictures converted to 800x600 in 256 color. I'm using it with Radeon running WB in 800x600 16bit. It is SLOW (maybe it is fast for 030 ;) ). I will try .bmp.

I have CF card, so this should not be an issue.

I'm actually using it only for my WB background. I'm not sure how to improve loading time here? Amiga boots really fast but I need to wait "few minutes" for background to load :(. This is my first 030 and with my 040 I did not have to wait that much at all, so I blame my 030.

What happened to your 040 card? Are you certain your 030 is working correctly? Have you performed speed tests with it such as SysSpeed/AIBB/SysInfo? Do you have 040 specific datatypes on there or something?

Old story with my Apollo 040 (MACH131), sold it long time ago :(.

My 030 works fine, I'm getting about 9.5MIPS as it should in SysInfo.
