dance/rave themed demos?
« on: March 10, 2009, 03:58:15 PM »
I've got a gig coming up projecting Amiga demos at a warehouse party. I'll be playing a bunch of my favorites, but I think it makes sense to work in a bunch of theme appropriate demos. I'm looking for demos with any sort of dancing, rave, or party themed visuals (music is irrelevant because the DJs will be providing sound).

Off the top of my head the only ones I can think of are "State of the Art" and "Nine Fingers" by Spaceballs and "Symbolia" by Access. Any others?

I have an A1200 with a Blizzard accelerator with a 68030. Currently have 64MB in it but have a 128MB SIMM coming in the mail which hopefully will come in time. So, I can do OCS/ECS/AGA, so my only limitations are CPU and memory. No '060/PPC demos or anything that requires >128MB.

Thanks!

Yeah the TBL demos are gorgeous. I can get a few of them to run (like Requiem) but they go pretty slow. I'd like to get my hands on an '060 some day for either my 1200 or 4000 just so I can properly run those demos.

Thanks for the others.

Oh, good call. Saw a few other demo archives but they don't have as many options. I think maybe I've seen this one too but it's been a while.

Yeah I've been doing the YouTube thing, but there's so many there and they aren't really classified.

That demoscene site looks good, only complaints are 1) doesn't seem to indicate PAL/NTSC, and 2) seems limited.

I downloaded several hundred demos from somewhere (AmiNet?) and the number of demos on demoscene doesn't even come close. I don't have time to wade through all the demos I have though, so it'll be a good starting point.

That B2R site is fantastic. The navigation is kind of clunky and there's not enough info on the demos, but it has one of the best demo collections I've seen in one place. Found a ton in there!

Keep In Mind your gonna connect to a Projector wich if it happens to support PAL usually only displays in Black and White. I have never seen an NTSC demo except maybe once.

I've never seen a black & white projector... at least not since the 1970s. I'm going to be using a VGA projector so PAL, NTSC, and color should not be an issue.

I have seen NTSC demos, though not nearly as many as PAL.

Thanks, haven't seen any of those but will look into them later. I got a copy of SCALA (along with the little joystick port dongle) with my first A1200 but have never used it for anything.

Well, it was last night, and was a great success.

At first ran into a problem where the VGA output of an Indivision is apparently at either the wrong frequency or resolution to work with modern projectors (tried it on both a Dell and some other brand projector). That sucks since that was one of the main reasons I bought the Indivision. Maybe an older projector will work.

Fortunately though, the Dell projector took PAL input so I was able to use composite output. It was a little fuzzy up close but looked great from the dance floor.

When I finish sufficiently recovering from 12 hours of partying/dancing/Amigging, I'll post some pictures of a big ass rave with lots of people dancing to 9 Fingers and State of the Art haha.

No, I hadn't seen Africa before. Maybe if I get to do this again...
