I have an original Buddha card in an A4000 and I'm trying to use Compact Flash cards with it. I downloaded the patches from Doobrey and applied them, but the Buddha still does not recognize the CF cards.

I tried two different CF-IDE adapters and two different cards. Can anyone tell me the expected CRCs for the patched ROMs? I have:

MiniPro (CRC32?): 0x0041 D1C1
SHA1: 28e8b0d1136ca4f796e0d4a6e3bb2f2206692541
MD5: d664bbb8c2d8b6616a72d2f8ccdcf9cd

Patched version string says 103.19 (19.01.2010) which seems to match the date in the readme. I also patched the BuddhaIDE app.

When I check with the FindDevices prog it can't see anything attached. Tried both IDE ports too. It can see an ATAPI DVD-RW if I plug that in.
I have a buddha myself. and they seem WERY picky about cf cards.
You need a trueide to make cf cards work with buddha

Shouldn't it just work with the patched ROM though? I thought that was the point of patching it, to make compact flash cards work.

Maybe I should try one of those Transcend ones that show up as fixed disks.
I have tried a lot of cf cards on my buddha. none seemed to work, none of them got recognized by the controller. i have patched and upgraded everything possible.
I even tried using my A1200 to prep an setup os 2.1 on the cf cards.
they jut did not get recognized.... no boot, nothing....

purchase trueide and all works as if nothing has happened...

I too have a Buddha Flash and TrueIDE. The only CF card that I've been able to get recognized is a 2GB Transcend. I've tried about 5 different brands of CF cards to no avail (TrueIDE was supposed be able to use about any CF card). I recently bought a couple Transcend 4GB cards and again, not recognized. I have NOT flashed the card since getting it from AmigaKit. So, I'll try that and the patches in Pyrre's original thread http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=71070 as it seemed to work for him?

Pyrre, I thought you stated that the patches worked for you here......
http://www.amiga.org/forums/showpost.php?p=809915&postcount=17

Er wait.... Pyrre, no patching worked for you?  After getting the TreuIDE did you use HDToolBox or HDInstTools? I may have never tried HDInstTools - who knows. Geeze, that thread is almost a year old and I missed it. Anyhoo, thx Pyrre, Cosmos & PanterHZ. :)

HDToolbox is my preferred program for setting up hdd's. :)
The patching worked well with spinning hdds. transfer speeds wen up slightly. I did get around to detect CFs inserted, but i never got around to use them. if i got them setup and prepped. they disappeared when rebooting to format them. Or in some way was messed up, rendering them unusable.
But when i got the trueide it worked like it never had made any problems.
I use SanDisk Ultra CFs. The ones with a gray and red sticker. I stick with 4GB cards, two of them. :D

My original buddha works fine with a cheap Chinese adapter with bracket and a sandisk ultra II 4GB.
lucky you :)

I had severe problems with that. have not tried ultra II
only my 4gig Ultras.
After patching they were detected, with faulty size though.
But i never got past the stage of setting them up in hdtoolbox.
after a reboot (cold or hot did not matter) the drive(s) were gone and unable to format...

Instead of arguing with the girl, i got my hands on a trueide, and i can recommend it.

I have ordered a couple of new CF cards that hopefully are fixed disk mode. The two I have are Transcend but I think they are fake.
Hope it solves your problem.

I suppose I could try it, but I wanted the card to be externally accessible so I can transfer data easily.

Has anyone actually had a Buddha working%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!8203; with a CF card?
oldsmobile mike has a buddha working without trueide, it is possible. but i believe the buddha is extremely picky about what cf card you use

It's there something like the TrueIDE that has a card slot bracket?
not quite sure what you are asking for...?

There are many IDE-CF adapters, most of them are just pass through since CF is based upon IDE standards. The big difference with trueide is that it has an onboard chip to "bypass" the removable signal from CF cards. Trueide reports itself as a hard disk drive and not removable. (but i guess you already know this)

Like said earlier in the tread, some CF cards do not report itself as removable in a ide bus. But which cards are a pain to find out of...
I did never find any list when i looked into it. and i never found any CF card with any switch to select removable or not. i did find some (really) older cf cards with write protection switch though.
But i have read articles about some vendors making cards that can change the fixed/removable bit with a utility. Sandisk is/was one of them.

I have an old kingston 512MB cf card i used in my PIII as a bootable hdd and ran freenas from it. it did never compain about removable flag. but the buddha did not recognize it at all. with trueide, it worked like a charm.

some articles on the topic that may be helpfull:
http://www.os2museum.com/wp/removable-cf-card-or-not/
https://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/is-my-cf-a-non-removable.525206/ i have not tried the utility from sandisk. but it could help....
https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-set-a-cf-card-to-fixed-mode  I wonder if this would work after converting the card for amiga use after setting it to fixed mode.

What I mean is that I have a CF IDE adapter that fits in the slot at the back where Zorro cards have their ports. So with the case closed I can insert the CF card through the back.
aha.. i see :)
Have not tried those. i don't believe moving the installed cf card(s) to other machines is a viable solution. i have lost complete installs before.
another method of transfer is (for me, at least) preferred, i use zip disk for this purpose.

I found another couple of adapters to try, neither worked. I think the Buddha is just hopeless with CF cards. Might try a SCSI external MO instead, because SCSI compatibility is better.
Yea. but i had no other option for my A500. the trueide became my savior. and it works like a charm. I do have a SCSI controller planned for the A2K project.
