Gfx-card is essential. AGA is real bottleneck in this situation
You don't need any extra tricks with speed if you do have gfx-card in PCI or ZorroIII and 060 cpu.
One thing I love in IB is middle mousebutton scrolling with 3-button mouse. Far better than wheel
And middle mouse setted to shift key in MCP for some speed
