Hi from Jersey, (UK, not USA ;)
« on: February 06, 2007, 12:11:21 AM »
Hi all,

I've just joined after being recommended by people on mailing lists and IRC. I've asked for a bit of help which was readily forthcoming, nice one guys (& gals).

I 1st started with an A500 around 15-17 years ago (I still have accounts on my hard drivve from 15 years ago!), and upgarded to an A1200 with 060. I fitted a Subway to it around 2-3 years ago and was thrilled with the ease of transferring data from PC->Amiga->PC, better than Zip drives.

Anyway, 2 years ago I got an LCD widescreen TV and that's when I realsied I HAD to get a graphics card. I had to use Multiscan:Producyivity mode & it was so slow. So over the last 18 months, I bought the bits I needed to produce the system you see in my sig ;)

I live in Jersey, Channel Isles and although there was 1 other miggy user 5 years ago, he doesn't use it any more so I guess I'm the only one in Jersey. There used to be one in Guernsey but I haven't seen her online for quite a while. This means, I can only use places like Amiga.org for help but I have to say, everyone really does.

IBrowse really rocks with this setup and I shall be popping in here MUCH more frequently now :)

Hi A4000_Mad,

Cor, you're taking me back in time lol. Those were the days

Madisons burnt down with a quarter of the Hotel; it's been rebuilt as a medical centre.

Thackerys has closed and is now a bank building. La Buvette is still there but is now called the Original Wine Bar. Lords keeps changing it's name and is now La Cala and they have a restaurant there too.

You can now get qualifications to buy or rent a home in your own right if you live continously for 13 years (soon to come down to 10), or, as you  say, you have millions.

Roger Moore never actually owned or lived at Moonrakers :) It is still there but has been converted into flats after the owner sold up.

However, Ian Woosnam, Derek Warwick and the other English F1 World Champion (whose name escapes me atm, with a moustache and dark hair, not Damon Hill, older) do live here.

Pity you don't live here, there'd be 2 Amigans

 :-D

I believe you can't get residential qualifications to live there now unless you were on the island before 1981 and stayed there for 10 years? The only other way is to have a £zillion pounds in the bank right?

Is that really true? I have contacted the Dpt of Immigration in Jersey and they said they know of no such restriction (to have megabucks in a Jersey account) as long as you are a UK resident.

Well, the answer is yes, and no ;)

You CAN live here without qualifications, but you CAN'T rent or buy a house in your own right until you've lived here 13 years. Until then, you live in bedsits, or VERY expensive small flats, or share a house with someone who has Qualifications. Check out www.jerseyrights.org for further details, if you're thinking of moving over ;)
