Seriously, it's just more or less a tradition of honour thing. Standing next to them at the wedding shows you support the notion of him marrying whomever. And typical that you make at least one toast during the reception to the bride & groom, a ditty about happiness, the future, blah blah blah. Oh yeah, almost forgot: you're to keep hold of his ring too, until called upon by the priest, pastor, judge, etc.
Also traditional to make a few cracks about the lucky couple in front of their families and friends. Talk about what a dog he really is, how many people he's slept with, illegitimate children, social diseases, etc, That usually goes over real well :lol:
