CD_ROM will not mount
« on: July 16, 2006, 02:30:08 PM »
Hi, I have come back to the Amiga after many years of owning and using Amigas for mainly music. I started with a Amiga 500, then a 3000, to a 4000, where I took another direction.
Now , I have returned to a 4000 lately, but have some problems that I cannot seem to iron out.

The issue is that the system will not see the CD-ROM after I reformatted the hard drive with OS 3.1.
I purchased ASIMCDFS 3.1 and changed the CD-ROM even and still the system will not see the unit.
I have OS 3.9 to install, but as you see, this needs to be ironed out first.
I hope you knowledgeable folks can give me some insight as to what to try next.

It's good to be back!

Wolf

Hi Henk and thanks for replying!
When I bought the A4000 from a friend, it had a video toaster installed. I did not need or wish to buy the extra hardware, so he yanked the card. The CD-ROM did work at that point. When I took it home ,I found out that the CD-ROM did not work, so I bought OS3.1 thinking that a reformat would solve my problem. Not So!
I did try to install IDEFIX , but the installer (tool?)would not begin the installation. The OS3.1 and the ASIMCDFS3.1 did install with there installer because it ran off of the floppy disk. How do I get OS3.1 "installer"
to function correctly? Is there something I need to type in the start-up sequence?
Never had this problem on my old A3000   :-?

Hi adolescent,
I will try that(I'll try anything at this point!).
If I can get the OS3.1 "installer " to install, which has also been a problem.
Thanks for your reply and your help, I really appreciate it!

Hi Thomas,
I really appreciate the reply.
That all makes sense now.
I think I can now get on with my "Amiga life".

Thanks so much,

Hi Tony,
I bought the A4000 from a fellow by the name of Dan.
He pulled the board and might still have it. I think his web  site is www.dansdeals.net
He has always been very active in the Amiga community as long as I've known him. A good guy to deal with too!

The CD0: driver is installed in the dos drivers drawer, but I have not been able to get back to the Amiga and install IDEFIX yet.
I am pretty confident that the "Fix" will do the job. I had some good help getting me this far from some helpfull people on this board.

Cheers,
Wolf

Hi Matt,thanks for reply!
I will look to see what exact version of ASIMCDFS I have.(I'm at work presently.)
When I installed the ASIMCDFS software (from floppy disk)
it hung up when it searched for scsi or atapi device.(had to reboot.)I re-installed the software and did not let it search for the devices and it loaded fine.  Although, it still hangs the system when searching for the devices.

Secoundly, the "install" tool was copied to the c: dir during the OS3.1 install, but when I tried to install IDEFIX97, " the install tool still would not perform the operation.

Do you think a system re-install is needed?

Hey Thomas,
is the "Installer tool" in the c: directory in the OS3.1
install disk?

Thanks for the reply, Angus.
Believe me, that was one of the first things I did.
I also swapped out the CD_ROM.
I think the problem is the installation of ASIMDCFS.
There have been a few gracious people on this board that are helping me out.

Cheers,
Wolf

Hi Pierre,
Does it matter if the "slaved CDROM" is on the end connector of the 40 pin cable?
I know this makes a difference in the PC hardware.

Thanks Thomas, I will try this approach this weekend.
Boy, the reason I got back into the Amiga was to utilize some of the music programs that the PC world has yet been able to match.

Many years ago, I had a A3000.What a great machine it was!
This A4000 is a different beast though!
I know once this initial setup is established, this will enhance my studio, like it once did.

Thanks again for your continued efforts! :-)
