Living with MOS/AOS4/AROS only
« on: June 24, 2011, 04:41:55 PM »
I found an old post of someone trying to use just an original A1200 for his day2day computing needs.
Anyone already tried that with MorphOS, Amiga OS 4.1 or AROS?

That would include iOS devices sync? Coding for a mainstream platform?

And how good is the best browser available?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origyn_Web_Browser

It is based on webkit. Why it's not as good as safari or chrome?
Why it can't render google documents or gmail?

ah, and BTW, I have a powermac 933 with 1.5gb of RAM, but, unfortunately with a Radeon 9600 XT. As rv300 will only/mabye be supported in the future, how well MorphOS 2.7 works without 3d acceleration? I should give it a try just after I submit my new iOS game to the App Store! :)
BTW2, the new game uses shadow of the beast parallax inspired graphics (for the menu) *PS* I paid! a Swedish designer to completely redraw it!!! and a Workbench 1.3 inspired window as "about box"

AROS can run 68k binaries by double clicking on it? Just like OSX's Rosetta (ppc->Intel)?
MOS and AOS4.1 can do it, right?

Just installed MorphOS 2.7 on my Quicksilver 933 1.5gb RAM with a Radeon 9600 XT.
first impressions:
1) No support for Brazilian ABNT Keybord! :)
2) font is too small!
3) It`s not exactly flying, but I`m only using it for 5 minutes. I`ll post more impressions later.

two questions:
1) having no 3d acceleration impacts on performance, or just when using 3d games? What I`m missing?
2) How can I tell if I`m already pass the 30 minutes period? Just by looking at the watch?

1) You'll miss enhanced mode in normal use too. All windows in Ambient etc would be drawn using so called 3D layers, using 3D hardware on gfx card. That would enable shadows and transparency effects etc, there wouldn't be any tearing in window moving, double or triple buffering could be used... etc..
Well, so looks like I'll have to wait for rv300 support anyway. I don't have plans to buy "another" old card! :) I don't have more free space to store my "vintage" tech material.
It's the same core of the mobile radeon on powerbook g4s?

2) There will be nag requester and you probably notice the slowdown too
Well, I ended up seeing that. In the middle of the "Ultimate Pack" installation! :)

I had to install Tiger again and I have created 3 partitions:
1) ~50gb for tiger
2) ~20gb for MorphOS
3) ~10gb for OS9

But then I found that I needed another tiny partition to boot MorphOS. Is it possible to install morphOS on the 20gb partition without destroying the tiger installation? What's used for boot manager?
