I think you don't understand what demoscene is about. Demoscene is about using all the features of your machine and breaking limits, not about comparing classics with modern demos.
BTW, art is art regardless of the media used. Following the logic of some people oil-paints are rubbish because a photograph may be more realist.
I have watched c64 demos that are better than Amiga ones and it doesn't mean a c64 is better. It's just a mixture of artistic sense and outstanding coding skills.
There are drawings done with a pencil by artists hundreds of years ago that will always be better than some 3D raytraced image. And that is due to design and style.
You have to keep in mind the date and platform when a production is released. It's the same as music: Kraftwerk was revolutionary but an Elektro group now won't be revolutionary or amazing regardless of having "cleaner" sound or better instruments.
Your comment sounds like an idiot laughing of Da Vinci's art claiming he can take better pictures with his 100$ digital camera.
