I think everyone's missing the point here. Whether this kit is worth three and a half grand to you is irrelevant. This stuff is thoroughbred Amiga, not something as good as or better than or pretending to be. What's faster? What's it matter. That's not what it's about.

It's a bit like those other Picassos people sell now and then.

What would Picasso's 'Sunflowers' sell for? Twenty million? Fifty million? A hundred? Well I wouldn't say it was worth anything like that. It looks like a child's daub to me, but I'm not a connoisseur of the impressionists. I like the picture OK, but I'd be happy with a photo or a cheap print of it. That's the difference between those who say 'it's a rip off', 'not worth it' and the few who see things differently.

There are rich connoisseurs of everything and anything these days including Amigas. They don't necessarily chat to the likes of us and frequent Amiga.org, but they know what they like and they'll know the genuine thing when they see it. It's about the genuine thing. It's about provenance, that intangible quality some things have that no modern substitute can ever give. It has love built into it from 20 years' effort and use.

It would take considerable effort (and expense) to put this same kit together today. You would probably have to post wanted ads for all the original hardware and that puts up the price. How many PIVs do you see on offer? One now and then. How many Zorro Preludes have you seen on AmiBench? Not one I bet. How long would you be prepared to work getting it all together? A year? Two years? Five maybe? How much would you reckon your effort is worth at a daily rate?

No, this is an opportunity for those rare buyers of rare things. It's not up to anyone here to pour cold water on this guy's hopes. He's selling part of his life here. Part of himself. And the best of luck to him I say.

@stopthegop

You're right. I said I'm no connoisseur!

@BOOtDisk

As I said, I think you're missing the point, but everything you say is true.
