Video cables
« on: February 15, 2009, 03:04:15 PM »
I have an Amiga branded Microvitec 1438S monitor which has a captive cable with a 23pin amiga video connector on the end.

This cable is a little bit too short though and I would like to replace it with a longer cable, with a high density 15pin connector (VGA type).

The problem I have is that I am not sure what kind of cable I need to buy. Is it possible to by the cable on its own (sans connectors), so I can connect one end into the 1438 and put a VGA connector on the other end?

I have no idea what the cable on its own would be called, or where I can get it from.

On the subject of 1438 monitors...

Has anyone ever tried to remove the back cover off one? I just tried now and no matter how much I forced it, the top of it wouldn't move. The bottom of the case came away nicely. I was just wondering if I was missing something.

I didn't want to damage it, but it does now have quite a few screwdriver marks one it.

I suppose extending it would be doable. I'd still need to find suitable cable. I suppose I could just stick a VGA connector on the end of the current cable and get a VGA extension lead.

I just don't want it to be messy as this is what I have now:

Does anyone know what this type of cable is called and whether it is possible to buy it on it's own? I'm really stuck otherwise.

I have never come across an adaptor that would enable me to connect an Amiga monitor to a VGA display, so i would probably still have to make one, which would involve making more 23 pin connectors out of 25 pin connectors.
