Installed Deneb and now have problems.
« on: February 01, 2011, 12:37:47 AM »
I finally managed to install my new Deneb after having it for 3 weeks! I moved the A4000 down so it was easier to work on, read the manual of the Deneb so I knew what I was doing and inserted the card into a zorro slot then powered it on. Nothing happened, just a blank screen. Pulled out the Deneb and still the grey blank screen from the Cybervision 64 3D. Tried the Cyber in another slot and it was just the same. I pulled out my Scandy scan doubler from the video slot and just the same. I eventually managed to get the purple instert disc screen through the scandy so I thought great, it's back up again. Installed the CV and then...nothing.

I don't have time to look at this any more tonight but will strip it down on Wednesday night. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to try? I'm hoping that something has moved inside when I moved it, but I did check the cards, cd rom, hard drive etc and I'm still getting a grey screen through the CV.

I'm starting to dred buying the Deneb as without it I wouldn't have touched the machine and life would be better right now

Thanks for any help at all.

ElPolloDiabl,

I'll do that, thanks. Hope it's not anything burnt out on the motherboard though. I assume the PSU is the original unit that came with the machine as I certainly haven't changed it.

Franko,

I knew I should have bought the decent stuff!

I ended up discovering that without the SCSI HD connected to the Warpengine it worked fine. Now, I have the HD connected up again and it all works fine again, so I'm not entirely clear what the problem is/was. Maybe an iffy power or data cable, but I've pushed everything in firmly so will see how it goes.

I haven't even tried it yet. Well, I did try it and it came up with the message saying that it needs MUI installed which I haven't done yet. I'll try doing that tomorrow. I take it the latest version of MUI is still 3.8?

No no, I was VERY careful with the installation of the card and the cables as I had heard of people doing it wrong. :)

Thanks for the confirmation Goose.

I finally got time to mess around with this again. I'm currently having to use it in zorro2 mode. Not sure if this is an issue with the CV64 3D or not, but I have a Rev.11 Buster on the way so that may allow me zorro3 speeds.

So far I have tried a flash drive, Nikon camera and my mobile. All 3 caused the message to apear telling me it had been detected but not one of them came up as an icon on the desktop. From looking around in Trident am I right in thinking that these devices (storage) must be formatted in FAT95? If this is the case I'm going to order some new flash drives to be formatted like this for the Amiga and to use for PC transfers.

Is there a limit in the size I should go for? Could I buy a couple of 16gig drives and keep one connected to the internal port and use it for backup purposes? I'm using OS3.9.

Many thanks,

Robert

AFAIK deneb firmware V9 is supposed to fix dma related problems with the CV64/3d.
See here:

To let trident recognize FAT-formatted massstorage devices, you have to install fat95 on the amiga.

Hmm, that's odd as without selecting zorro2 mode mine wouldn't flash up confirming it had detected anything I plugged into it.

I've downloaded FAT95 from Aminet and will try that out later and see how I get on with it.

Many thanks,

Can't get FAT95 to install. When I click on the install icon it doesn't come up with anything. From reading the instructions they say it's "Simple" but not having used an Amiga except for some gaming in recent years it's not so simple for me. I thought with the Deneb I could insert a USB stick and it would pop up on the desktop with an icon? How exactly does this card work as so far mine isn't doing a great deal for the money.

Thanks,

Well I seem to have gotten somewhere with it. It seems that when you click on "install" it just copies it all over without opening an installer. I was going to try and manually copy things over only to find it was already installed in L: !!  On another note, in future is it safe to presume that if a piece of SW has a L or Libs directory you can just manually copy the contents over to the WB partition folders of the same name if there is no installer?

Wawrzon,

I have obtained a Rev11 Buster chip that is still to be installed once I get the tool for the job so it will be interesting to see if that makes any difference.

So far I have had a USB drive and my camera woking on it. My phone on the other hand is not coming up. What this has made me notice is that when dealing with 4meg photos multiview is a tad slow (to say the least) or maybe it's the Amiga in general? Or a datatype issue?

Thanks!

Going to mess around with the Deneb over the next week and then come back with any other queries I have :)

I haven't had much time to play around with the card but I did get the Rev 11 Buster installed and it still wont work in Z3 mode :( Zorro2 it is then.

I was thinking of getting an ethernet adapter for the card depending on how much cable costs per meter to get the A4000 internet access. What other things do people use with their Denebs other than flash drives etc?

How do you find out what version of the firmware is installed as maybe that's my issue?
