Cut the holder with dikes as advised.  The prongs join at the base so it doesn't matter.  Later you could use them to solder an external battery to.

Although I must admit Bifford's way is the cleanest way, but do we all have decent desoldering equipment?  Perhaps its time to consult the DoomMaster :-P
