I bought one in better condition (not yellowed) with more extras for less than half that price (£150) last year (from eBay).

And it was a rare Rev D, A4000D-CR where this is a regular Rev B A4000D!

Don't pay too much.

Surely a CD-ROM drive/burner, cheap, would be the first upgrade for this Amiga :-)

What for?

Surely the first upgrade would be a back panel IDE->CF adapter and a CF card?

Much easier to fit and use than an optical drive and facilitates fast transfer of files from a PC.

But considering the an upgrade to OS3.9 are what most people with big-box Amiga's want, I think a CD-rom drive will be necessary.

Why? You can install OS3.9 on your CF card using WinUAE before hand. Much easier than on a real Amiga.

Overpriced or underpriced is in the eye of the beholder.

Not it isn't! It is pure maths. The price of the auction less the average price of similar auctions over a period of time. If it is negative it is under priced, if it is positive it is over priced.

€289
€286
€261
€238
€195
€137

eBay A4000D 030/040 Average = €235

So at €449 the item is €214 over priced!

I always do it "on the real thing" if I can.

Wow you masochist ;-)

When it comes to crap like installing (which I dont consider to be a part of the Amiga experience) I always like to do whatever is easiest and quickest. In the case of Amiga OS installation WinUAE is the best choice. An install of OS3.9 takes a fraction of the time it takes on a real Amiga. It's easy to also install all the boing-bags and various fixes, libraries etc. and also install all essential tools not on the OS3.9 CD.

Not only that you can pre-prepare an image in WinUAE, keep a copy on the PC and simply copy over to the CF card whenever you need to re-install.

Ah, but then there's some here, who, once they've done the install on the PC would just leave it there and use the PC as an Amiga (skipping the physical thing out all together). ;-)

If WinUAE felt closer to the real thing than it does I would. It's close but not close enough yet.

But we are going off topic. I've shown empirically that the A4000D in question is over priced.

But this one comes with a Blizzard 4030, kickrom 3.1 and a HD diskdrive.

And some of the ones listed have A3640's, Buddha IDE controllers, Catweasel's and monitors.

A stock A4000D with a DD disk drive?? Not come across one yet.

Some have photos showing the battery removed and all is nice and clean. I'm sure you could have asked for photos of the others.

€449 is extortionate price for A4000D with only an 030.

But 2x average price? I don't think so.

I wouldn't call this A4000 "average" and not yellowed.

Which Amiga are you looking at. The keyboard in the auction is as yellow as they come as is the floppy disk drive face plate and the mouse.

I'd prefer Blizzard 4030 to A3640, personally; that's even taking into consideration the speed difference.

I wonder why?

There are no goodies on at the moment but you'd be amazed how many "Amga accellerator" and "cybertsorm turboakrte" cards go cheap.
