Thanks Gulliver!

Does anyone remember where that post was that provided a script to update OS3.5/3.9 with the new components of this OS3.1.4?

Re: Available now: AmigaOS 3.1.4

We didn't test Cloanto ROMs, but they might work.

This irks me as the only ROMs available within the last year or so have been Cloanto ROMs (@amigakit). However, AOTL does sell Hyperion ROMs. I'm sitting on 3 Cloanto A500 3.1 ROMs and wish I had bought from AOTL now.

I realize that 3.1.4 ROMs are recommended for the updated OS but as it stands those are not available as yet. So using MapROM seems to be the only option at this time if using Cloanto ROMs.(?)

Has anyone tried OS3.1.4 with Cloanto ROMs yet?

Good to see that the Hyperion vs Cloanto conflict has affected the project.  :-\

Not really. I would just go for the default software installation, and LoadModule will take care of it. MapRom is not required for that. In fact, a physical ROM is not required for 3.1.4.

Of course, the usual disclaimer applies. How can a vendor give you a warranty for a product that was developed elsewhere and they have not tested with? 3.1.4 works with the original 3.1 ROMs, that is something we can ensure. I would be surprised if it would not work with Cloanto, but... no promises.

Thanks for the reply THoR.... I don't have any unrealistic expectations with this new OS3.1.4. However, I would think that this updated OS might present a predicament to any vendor selling Cloanto ROMs going forward (what ever complication that might be). Like you said, might not be a problem, but I was never happy buying Cloanto ROMs in the first place, especially when that's not what I ordered but received anyway. I know, not your fault.

Errr yea, I meant LoadModule.  :o

Ah, such as life....  I don't mean to rant.   ;)

I'm just going to wait to purchase until the new ROMs are available. Guess I'll use the Cloanto ROMs for mini hockey pucks! LOL

BTW, I highly recommend that anyone considering purchasing OS3.1.4 read the FAQ.txt first! Especially if you don't plan on purchasing the 3.1.4 ROMs. Very good information in there!

The lack of a CD ROM drive out of the box is a hard thing to not have. MUI is to big to fit on a floppy for install to get Poseidon on to get USB working and so on.

@Acill
Install the USB software and then run these commands from CLI.
You'll have to replace subwayusb.device in the second command with what ever RapidRoad's device name is. This should activate the USB port. Then use a USB CD unit to install MUI.

This, of course, will work if the RapidRoad software is installed generally like the older Subway USB software.

C:AddUSBClasses
C:AddUSBHardware DEVS:USBHardware/subwayusb.device

@Thread

What would give me the best improvements for my 060 RTG Miggy; Boing Bags 3 & 4 on top of Boing Bag 2 on my OS3.9 partition or incorporating the 'improvements' / bug fixes in OS 3.1.4? Should I do both? Should I be worried about instability?

Excellent questions!  ;)
I'm running straight up OS3.9 w/BB1&2.... no other patches on my A2K.

I made a script to help update 3.1, 3.5 or 3.9 with 3.1.4.

It is in Aminet.
Make a backup first, and then execute it.

http://aminet.net/misc/os/Updateto314.lha

Yup.... this is exactly what I need to do.  :D

@giZmo350

That's great but should we upgrade with Boing Bags 3 & 4 first?

my gut feeling tells me NOT to install BB3&4. However, OldsmobileMike swears by them (I think he's the patch king!). So, I guess I'll just try it with & without BB3&4.

It shouldn't be too time consuming (or dangerous) as I'm lucky to have one of these to quickly make a backup to another CF card. I probably won't get to it right away as I'm going to wait to buy OS3.1.4 with a ROM chip when they're available. But I'll surely post results when I do!

No, there is nothing in the boing bags we haven't fixed otherwise. The components in 3.1.4 are more recent versions of the Os components than those in the boing bags.

Does that go for BB1&2 also?

Note that "HDToolBox" keeps a database of disks. You can always "add new drive type" and there trigger a re-scan of the harddisk, then use this as basis for new partitions. Otherwise, HDToolBox will use whatever it saved the last time it recognized the drive.

Huh, I never knew that. Is that something new? Good to know. Thx!

Create a folder called glowicons   [ example: work:glowicons ]

Dump Hyperion icons in new folder
Open a shell and enter:
copy work:glowicons/#? sys: all
and reboot.

Might just work.....  ;)

Has anyone encountered any issues with SCSI drives no longer working after installing 3.1.4 on an A2000 that has a Blizzard 2060 accelerator card?

I have the same setup, including a SCSI2SD V5 (SCSI2SD not in my sig A2000 though) and would try it out but alas, I do not yet own OS3.1.4.

Kirk, I thought you owned a SCSI card reader, i.e., a PCD-50B? If you do, you should use it with your Blizz 2060. It's ideal!  ;)

An unfriendly and negative answer I am afraid.
