That ide connector is for the up coming usb module that will activate the usb.
Not sure how to measure the speed. I used ibrowse and downloaded a 4 meg file off of whdownload and it average about 32000 cps, not sure how that translates to how many megs a sec. It was pretty fast. That was connecting with amitcp v3 with the 1.11 driver.

Not even close to 1 meg/sec. That's 32K/sec. On my A1200 with USB Ethernet I get about 3K/sec.
