Hi,

I just got myself a Blizzard PPC 040/160Mhz and a BVision quite cheap :-) . I have fitted it in my Eyetech Mk5 tower and it seems to work ok. However I think I need a little help please:

1. I have no fan on the 040 and it gets very hot  8-)  any suggestions on what I can fit in the small space?

2. The PPC heatsink is also very hot and the fan is noisy, any suggestions to a replacement?

3. I am also missing the SVGA cable for the BVision, can some one tell me the pinouts so I can make a new one?

Thanks :-)

I recomend a 486 CPU cooler they sort of fit on the 040. You can find them in junk shops for a pound or two now.

The PPC cooler should be enough, but my BlizzPPC fan melter so if you can find a cooler for the PPC that woudl be a good idea.

-Edit- AFAIK the SVGA cable should be a standard one, they can be bought from any computer shop.

Do you mean just a heatsink or a fan as well?  I have a few old heat sinks but nothing seems to fit, the case gets in the way :-( .

Thanks for the advice!

Hmmm, I found a 486 PC in a skip, took it home, took out the fan/heatsink and put it on my 68040 (the plastic clips didn't fit, so I used cable ties to hold it on.)

remove the old ppc fan and insert a bigger one..,

Is it easy to mount a bigger fan in the same place? Would I have to put it on top of the heatsink instead?

i recmomend a cooling rib aswell,

I am having trouble finding information on those, do you have a link?

Thanks!

I'm not sure, but there muct be PPC603 heat sinks and fans available....

Anyway, just stick an Athlon heatsink/fan on top of the PPC cooler that should do the job :-)

Just butchered the only 486 we have at work :-) .

It is not to tall so I think it will fit, however it has a raised edge to fit around a 486 cpu. Is an 040 cpu a little bigger?

Um... I don't know, the heatsink I found was flat and sat perfectly on the 68040, then I just ran cable ties around the board to hold it on, it looks a mess but it seems to work.

I have a ressurected Apollo 1240 card in my 1200D. I found an old combined 5V fan/heatsink that was almost exactly the same area as the 040 and only 1cm tall in total at a computer fair. It cost me 50p (I wish I's bought a few now).

Anyhoo, its very quiet, gets nice and cool and as the only real downside, is made by intel (/hide). It could be a pentium 1 fan? Not sure.

If you can find such a beast, it would be ideal for your card.

THat's exactly waht mine looks like!!! but it was on top of an old 30Mhz 486sx
